Pans & Company

For a start, let me say that I am not at all the kind of person that frequently goes to fast food restaurants, so do not blame me for this entry which constitutes the exception rather than the rule for me. Although, should you need a cheap and consistent lunch (as in a city like Barcelona it is not always easy to find cheap locals) I think Pans & Company could be a reasonable option, all the more so that the one I went to is located in a really favourable and strategic position.

Situated on one side of Plaza de Sant Jaume, a couple of minutes from the Cathedral and within walking distance from basically any interesting place in the city centre. Leaving aside the declaration of the company, which affirms that all the products are prepared with genuine ingredients (I will not deal with the matter as it is not really my cup of tea), I thought that Pans & Company is a good choice due to the low prices and the good quality of the food.

During a recent trip to Barcelona, indeed, I had lunch in the abovementioned restaurant (which perfectly suited the planned route, including the visit of the Barri Gotic before lunch and of La Ribera in the afternoon) and found it really satisfying.

At a cost of 5. 50 Euros, indeed, I could get a complete menu including a good bacon-and-cheese sandwich, some chips and a drink.

More elaborate sandwiches were also available for a barely higher price (6-7 Euros). One final but important remark may be made about the restroom: do not throw away the bill you will be given when paying for the food, as you will find on it the code needed to enter the toilet.

Tanto per cominciare, lasciatemi dire che non sono affatto il tipo di persona che frequenta molto i fast food, perciò non criticatemi per questo post che rappresenta l'eccezione piuttosto che la regola per quanto mi riguarda. Tuttavia, nel caso aveste bisogno di un pranzo consistente ed economico (dato che in una città come Barcellona non sempre è facile trovare locali a buon prezzo), credo che Pans & Company possa essere un'opzione ragionevole, tanto più che la sede alla quale sono andato è situata in una posizione davvero favorevole e strategica.

E' ubicata infatti su un lato di Plaça de Sant Jaume, ad un paio di minuti dalla Cattedrale e raggiungibile a piedi da praticamente ogni luogo di interesse nel centro città. Lasciando da parte le dichiarazioni della compagnia, la quale afferma che tutti i prodotti vengono preparati con ingredienti genuini (non mi inoltrerò in una simile faccenda, dato che non è proprio il mio campo), penso che Pans & Company sia una buona scelta a causa dei prezzi bassi e della buona qualità del cibo.

Durante un recente giro a Barcellona, infatti, ho pranzato nel suddetto ristorante (che si sposava perfettamente con l'itinerario pianificato, che prevedeva la visita del Barri Gotic prima di pranzo e de La Ribera nel pomeriggio) e l'ho trovato davvero soddisfacente. Ad un costo di 5, 50 euro, infatti, ho potuto avere un menu completo composto da un buon panino con bacon e formaggio, una razione di patate fritte e una bevanda. Ad un prezzo leggermente superiore (6-7 euro) erano disponibili anche altri panini più elaborati. Un'ultima ma importante nota riguarda il bagno: non buttate via lo scontrino che vi sarà dato una volta pagato, in quanto su di esso troverete il codice necessario per accedere alla toilette.
