Mar de la Ribera

Situated in a very favourable position, right next to the church of Santa Maria del Mar, this small restaurant is probably not to be included in the list of the top places in Barcelona. Anyway, it represents a good choice for those who may happen to need a place to eat in the district of La Ribera.

As I was saying, the local is found along the narrow street flanking the left side of Santa Maria del Mar. By the way, the church is surrounded by a series of interesting restaurants, though not all of them are particularly cheap nor of top quality. In this sense, Mar de La Ribera may represent a good choice, as it offers a series of classical dishes of acceptable quality for a quite reasonable price. Among the specialties available in the menu, most of the Spanish typical dishes such as paella, both in the version with fish and in the one with meat, tortilla and a few fish courses which are supposed to be the strong point of the restaurant.

Just to play it safe, I opted for a paella marinera which turned out to be quite satisfying, though not of top class. Anyway, the portion was quite abundant and the fish of rather good quality. A final piece of advice which may be of some use: be careful when having a look at the menu placed outside the restaurant, as it will not probably include the VAT. In a nutshell, Mar de la Ribera may not be a place of excellence, but its location and the reasonable quality of the food make it a reasonable choice for a quick lunch in La Ribera.

Situato in una posizione assai favorevole, giusto di fianco alla chiesa di Santa Maria del Mar, questo ristorantino non è probabilmente da includere nel novero dei migliori locali di Barcellona, ma rappresenta ad ogni modo una buona scelta per coloro che dovessero aver bisogno di un posto dove fermarsi a mangiare nel quartiere di La Ribera.

Come stavo dicendo, il locale si trova lungo la stretta viuzza che fiancheggia il lato sinistro di Santa Maria del Mar. Peraltro, la chiesa è letteralmente circondata da una serie di interessanti ristoranti, benché solo alcuni di essi si possano definire economici o di buona qualità. In questo senso, Mar de La Ribera può rappresentare una buona opzione, dato che offre una serie di piatti classici di qualità accettabile ad un prezzo abbastanza ragionevole. Tra le specialità disponibili nel menu, la maggior parte dei piatti tipici spagnoli, quali paella, tanto nella versione con il pesce quanto in quella con la carne, tortilla e piatti di pesce fresco che dovrebbero essere il punto di forza del ristorante.

Giusto per andare sul sicuro, ho optato per una paella marinera che si è rivelata abbastanza soddisfacente, seppur non eccelsa. Ad ogni modo, la porzione era assai abbondante ed il pesce di qualità abbastanza buona. Un ultimo consiglio che potrebbe essere d'aiuto: fate attenzione quando date un'occhiata al menu situato all'esterno del ristorante, dato che i prezzi potrebbero non includere l'IVA. In poche parole, può darsi che Mar de la Ribera non sia un locale di eccellenza, ma la sua posizione e la discreta qualità del cibo ne fanno una scelta ragionevole per un pasto veloce a La Ribera.
