As I have stated several times, the district of La Ribera offers several interesting places for a lunch in Barcelona. Along the two sides of the fascinating Passeig del Born, or hidden in the narrow streets which characterise the area between Santa Maria del Mar and Carrer de Montcada, a series of inviting restaurants provide a good meal for a very reasonable price, usually 11-12 euro for a complete lunch, choosing from the different courses available in the menu del dìa. This was the case of the restaurant in question, which I discovered while I was around with a couple of friends. Right when we were starting to feel peckish, we spotted an attractive signs offering a convenient menu del dìa at the restaurant La Lantia.
The local is situated in Carrer del Brosolì, one of the streets originating from Carrer de l'Argentera (the main road leading to Santa Maria del Mar from Via Laietana) and heading northward towards Carrer de Montcada. Quite a strategic location, though perhaps a bit out of the way. For this reason, a wide board is placed along Carrer de l'Argentera, right under the vault which is the entrance to Carrer del Brosolì. Tempted by the cheap price and the wide variety of dishes available, we made our choice and made our way along this narrow street. We found the restaurant a few metres ahead: it was quite a surprising place, indeed. With its low ceilings, the dim light which almost resembled a candle-lit atmosphere, the ethnic (though a bit run-down in some parts) furniture and decorations make La Llantia quite a picturesque local.
My own pick from the several dishes on the menu was fideua as first course and botifarra de Vic (typical Catalan sausage, made in the town of Vic) amb mongetes (a sort of white beans) and chips. Personally, I found the two dishes really tasty: though the fideuà was perhaps not particurlarly rich in fish, the allioli sauce was really good, and the botifarra...well, one of the most delicious things I have eaten since I am in Catalonia! As for my friends, they shared my selection for the first dish, while they opted for the a really tasty-looking salmon for main course. In a nutshell, we were particularly satisfied by the meal, which was served with appreciable celerity and was topped by the usual flan, which I am starting to regard as the typical local dessert together with the catalan cream.
For these reasons, I would not have any doubts in recommending La Llantia restaurant for a good, not too expensive meal in the strategic district of La Ribera.
