Could you think possible to find a quiet and enchanted place, looking like a fairy tale forest, just a few steps from the Rambla in Barcelona? Probably very few people would have thought it possible...and yet, that it exactly how this unique local called Bosc de les Fades (The Wood of the Fairies) looks like. Having left the southern chaotic section of the Rambla, following the sign pointing to the Museu de Cera (Wax Museum) and once gone past the entrance to the museum, you will find the access door to this magic place. It will seem to you as if, far from being a simple door, that entrance were the the entry to another world, a special dimension which could not be guessed at all from the outside.
After such a poetic introduction, it may seem quite inadequate to get down to such a trivial matter as food and drink. At any rate, the visitor will probably be so shocked by the sudden change of atmosphere and so charmed by the surrounding environment that it may take him a couple of minutes to recover. Therefore, here are some information which I hope you will find of some use. Needless to say, the place is not exactly economical (as in the case of many other places in Barcelona, the special atmosphere comes at a certain cost). Although, if you want to stay on the cheap side you may have a drink and a tasty snack for the acceptable price of about 5 Euros altoghether, as it was my case.
Having dropped in with my girlfriend to discover this renowned local, we ordered a drink and a slice or tortilla (whose quality was very good) and sat to a table to enjoy the enchanting setting. Other options available are empanadillas, olives, croquetas and sandwiches, but it is also possible to have more elaborated tapas like chorizo, mejillones (sausage, mussels) and so on or delicious slices of desserts. Though the various dishes are probably good, the most attractive aspect of the place is, as I have already said several times, the atmosphere. While enjoying your snack or drink in the candle-lit room, do not omit to observe the surrounding trees whose branches and leaves seems to be protruding among the tables and the stalactites of a cave which almost seems real. Of course, nothing of this enchanted place is natural, but while walking behind the small cascade where a mysterious nymph is placed you may believe for a moment to be in a real fairy tale.
