Alchemia

Located in the Kazimierz district, I would say that Alchemia is the first place you should visit when strolling through this Jewish quarter. The decoration is very original: there was no need to make an extra effort to show the special vibes of this pub (Narnia fans will love it!). The staff is friendly and food/drinks are tasty and relatively cheap. If you love hot chocolate, you should definitely try it in Alchemia.

Sometimes Alchemia holds music events in the basement. Indeed, they are always playing good music, but this kind of events only take place at the weekends. Generally, Alchemia is a great place, one of my favorites.

I read a while ago in a touristic guide when I was new in Krakow that Alchemia was the most visited pub in Krakow. I am unsure if that's still the case but it is definitely a great place to hang for a before party for example.

Last time I was there I met completely randomly the same American couple I had seen in the train that was bringing me back from warsaw the day before. Krakow sometimes seems like a village ( although there is nearly a million people living in the city and its surroundings). What i mean is that the center is rather small and you will often meet randomly people you know or met recently.

Alchemia is on Plac Nowy, the heart of the Jewish District, Kazimierz. Inside you feel like you're entering an habitation from the beginning of the century with ancient wooden furniture evrywhere, old dirty mirrors, paintings on the wall. Not much light inside Alchemia apart from the candles burning at each table. Definitely adventure deep into the bar and explore the different rooms, i cannot gurantee you will find a lot of seats but don't stay in the entrance room, the door constantly gets opened and if it is winter you will have to keep your coat on!

The cool thing in Alchemia is the wardrobe at the back of the main room. You think first it is just an old furniture but this is actually a door that allows you to discover hidden secrets of Alchemia! Music is in perfect style with the location, kind of underground music that you will not hear anywher"e else in Krakow. loads of live concerts also in Alchemia. I went there last time for a mix of jazz and rock concert, the place was crowded but atmosphere was really nice and relaxed (best example is the guitarist who broke a string, laughed about it and continued to play with only five strings the remaining time of the gig!

A local told me the owner is the same than Bunkier Sztuki near the Main Square, if you to both places you will notice it too as there are the exact sma home made sweet pastries at the bar.

Really good old fashioned place in Kazimierz, worth visiting and re-visiting!
