Kolanko is a bar/café/restaurant located on one of the main street in the Jewish District of Kazimierz : Jozefa street.
I discovered it for the first time when some friends recommanded me to try the buffet breakfast. I managed to wake up and get up on a sunday morning (not bad hum?! ;) and went for brekfast to Kolanko. Really easy to find and I was amazed not only by the quantity of food, the quality but also by the very very low price (around 15zlotys which makes less than 4 Euros for a buffet brekfast). OK this is not a breakfast like you can get in Marriott Hotel but on a quality/price basis, this is an excellent deal! Salty brekfast with ham and cheese, toasts, pickles, vegetable salads, eggs and sausage but also sweet brekfast with different types of yogourts, jams, nutella, cereals, cakes and biscuits.
Downside for this morning deal is that it is so cheap and getting so popular that the place gets crowded very fast and second time I went back i even had to wait fifteen minutes for a table to get free and washed by the staff.
This is also a nice place for a hot drink or a beer, atmosphere is very friendly. During the evening maybe not the best place to have a conversation around a drink as music can be a bit too loud.
My most recent experience in Kolanko was for a late dinner. We had to wait at least thirty minutes for a zurek soup, (traditional Polish soup) a prawn salad and a chocolate tart dessert which I found a bit excessive despite the place being packed but we were not in a particular hurry so I was not annoyed by this at all.
Not the best place in Krakow but I had a good time every single time I went there (and I went at least four or five times which means it is not so bad ;) Breakfast is definitely a must try especially if you are on a low budget.
