I am sure this place has been covered many times as Auschwitz is a place many people feel they should go to pay their respects to the dead and try to understand nazi’s barbarism. I went there a while ago surely as I thought also it was something important to do. I remember getting out of the place and being completely disgusted by the experience. Let me explain why : first, loud Uk people with no tops on, probably still half drunk should not be allowed within the perimeters. Then I remember seeing on the parking a bus full of Israeli people with Israel flags going there as a sort of pilgrimage. Not judging and this is not the place to do that but I personally thought their attitude was not adapted to the place. 3rdpoint that made me very uncomfortable were loud comments when you enter a room. I believe this is a place where silence should be almost imposed, like a history museum. There was something almost indecent about the whole thing, like people taking selfies in front of the “shower room”… I am glad I went there as I believe this was something important to do but I was surprised by the business it became and people’s attitude. To conclude I would say this is entirely up to you if you want to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, expect to get out and be a bit “dazed” by what you will see and hear during the guided tour.
