Burgers And Fries | Parisg
Looking through the topics of my previous posts, it's fair to make a judgement of me at this very point that I love food. I love everything about it from a nice brunch to some guilty pleasure junk food. For this very post, I would like to share a new discovery to you all here in Paris.
It was like meant to be. I was just checking my Facebook like everyone else until I noticed an advertisement that caught my eyes. It was a page about a burger joint right here in the middle of Paris, located in Strasbourg Saint-Denis. Like any curious surfers, I clicked on their page and checked out their menu, and their current special. The menu is simple and suits me, and so does the price. With no second thought, I decided to reserve a day for lunch at this burger spot.
Okay, and now for its name and location. The place is stylishly and semi-creatively called Burger & Fries. The name is super easy to remember and you will be surprised as to how much more easy it is to get here. If you use Google Maps to pinpoint the location of the place, it'll get you to metro station Strasbourg Saint-Denis. This station is only one stop away from the center point of the area in which is République, and you could either jump on lines 8 (light purple), 4 (dark purple/pink) and 9 (weird-looking green). The most helpful piece of advise I could give is that you need to out at exit numbers 4 or 5. If you get out from 5, you will be on the same side of the restaurant and if you get out from 4, it should be opposite you across the street. If you're like to walk or use other forms of transport, then the precise address for Burgers and Fries is 1 boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle, 75002. Now you really can't go wrong!
Great, so now we're at the very place. Once you get in, you'll be greeted by what is the same concept of a hotel front desk reception. This is where you will be placing your orders. There are posters on the wall of the menu and you could always ask the helpful staff for help. One thing that was in the way of me deciding what to order is that, I didn't know the differences between their burgers.
They only have three types of burgers, which are a regular hamburger, a cheeseburger and what they call the double-double. The double-double is a more hardcore version of the hamburger as it has a double dose of the meat and if I'm not wrong, a more generous addition of the cheese as well. I went for neither since I feel a good cheeseburger always does the trick for me. So I opted for the cheeseburger, with some fries and a drink. They have a soft drink dispenser in which you could serve yourself, but I was also offered other (healthy) alternatives like bottled water and orange juice. Since I'm going to be feasting on 'burgers' and 'fries', my logic told me to get orange juice, and so I got a bottle of Tropicana orange juice. The bottle is really small though, but that's not a problem.
I mentioned way earlier about their 'special'. I don't know if this is how it's supposed to be, but on top of the orange juice, I was able to use my cup to get drinks from the machine too. So after I finished my tiny bottle of juice, I helped myself to some Lipton Iced Tea, which has become my go-to drink in fast-food restaurants around here. Otherwise, you can also get water, Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Orangina, seven up, etc. If this isn't enough, you also get a cool-looking coffee machine, but this is not included in the deal. But for only €1. 00, you can get a hot chocolate, awesome right? Oh, did I mention that there's also an ice dispenser? Not that you'll need it since the drinks are already super cold.
So you get a ticket after your order which has the order number. You basically wait for your number to be called by the staff linking you between the kitchen and the seating area. At this point, the wait for your burger should be no more than five minutes. I guess I was there at a good time since it was not too busy and that I only had one person in front of me. With this, I got my order within three-four minutes, which was amazing. So with my burger, fries and drink sitting nicely on my red little tray (a neat touch to presentation), I made my way upstairs to find a seat.
Yes, they do have seatings one floor up! The place is quite spacious and you should find a seat that suits you quite easily. I would say though, that the place is not the cleanest but it's not filthy. I assume that they don't have too many floor staffs, so the tables are not always looked after and wiped down. Anyhow, I settled down nicely and got down to business. First thing first: photos. By now, I know far too well that my hands will be soaked in grease, sauce and what not after I handle the burgers and the fries.
Let me first start off with the fries. I'm sorry that it's a bit hard to see from my photo, but the fries that I got are actually unique from other fries I've had previously. They're homemade and are very skinny in size. In this mountain of fries, you will find those that are super skinny and super crispy, but most of them are skinny and soft. I use the word soft to describe them because it refers to them as being somewhat sticky - all of this is in a good sense and they're very enjoyable to eat. You will get a little wooden toothpick shaped mini fork but honestly, you won't need it since the fries are so soft that when you try to fork it up, they just break off. My fries came with my choice of their sauce maison, which is their house-made sauce. The sauce was really good and it was really similar to the one I had in Brussels called Andalouse (the Andalusian sauce is a sauce made with mayonnaise, tomatoes, various spices, garlic, shallots, peppers and peppers). The fries are barely seasoned but they give you a small packet of salt so you could control how you would like your fries.
Now onto the main event, the cheeseburger. Some people would be unaccustomed to a cheeseburger with vegetable, and I must admit that I was one of them. When I placed my order, I was imaging my cheeseburger with its usual beef patty, melted cheese, onions and some bacon. This version here doesn't have bacon but has a super, super, fresh, and crispy lettuce. The picture down below will give you an idea of how the burger looks. It comes in a packaging that's very traditional to burger joints in the States. Some people even go as far to claim that Burger and Fries makes burgers that are closest to California's In and Out. Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience to support this claim, but I must admit that my cheeseburger was quite good.
So, I'll begin with the bun. Some people like their buns to be nicely toasted, with charred marks on some occasions. Chances are close to none that you will get that with your order of cheeseburger here. The buns were actually the exact opposite. Okay I'm sure that it's been heated or toasted somehow, but once it has all the components in between them and wrapped, they become really, really soft. And again, I refer to soft as a good thing for these buns. The softness of the bun really highlighted the flavors . Oftentimes the taste of the bun is overlooked by other components like the meat and sauce, but not this time. I don't know whether it was a placebo thing or maybe my palate is super developed, but I tasted the milk in the bun. This was really cool to me and for every bite, I was looking forward to enjoying both the bun and its components.
So we don't get bacon but we get sautéed onions and cheese. The onions were delicious and I would be happy to just have them on the side, and a lot of them. They were beautifully caramelized and sweet to just the right amount. The cheese was nicely melted onto the meat patty as well. It was melted to the point that the edge of the burger had a cheesy-sauce like texture, which was also enjoyable. The heart of the soul of the burger is, of course, its patty, and also the sauce. I couldn't really taste the sauce or the seasoning of the patty, but it was definitely a well-executed patty. It wasn't dry and was just juicy enough that my hands weren't soaked in juice. Overall, it was a really nice burger and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I also mentioned way above that the price suited me. You're not obliged to purchase the set with a burger, fries and a drink. The prices for the individual burgers are:

All in all, I would highly recommend you guys to check out this burger joint for its good food, decent ambiance and of course, easy accessibility and affordability. I would suggest that you also check out their page on Facebook since that should be the place where they post their special offers. As I said, I wouldn't have known that they have an all you can drink soft drink bar (Burger & Fries - Odéon, 95 Boulevard Saint-Germain, 75006 Paris)… if I hadn't seen their post on Facebook.
