Central Square
In the heart of Lisbon, in Chiado neighbourhood, you'll find Praça do Rossio, also known as Praça D. Pedro IV, a big square from where you can see all the main attractions in the city center: Castelo de São Jorge, Praça do Comercio, Augusta street Archs, Santa Justa Elevator and Convento do Carmo. It is a all in one attraction and therefore, a must see in Lisbon.
Besides the great view, you'll find many other nice things in Praça do Rossio. In the middle of the square you'll find a beautiful fountain and a big statue in tribute to D. Pedro IV, a portuguese king. Also, the buildings that surround it are very cute and typical portuguese - colorful with flowers on the windows.
There are many restaurants, bakeries and nice stores in the square too. The most emblematic of them is Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa (or Portuguese Sardine's Fantastic World), a store that only sells canned sardines.
Location
If you're in Lisbon, you must go to Praça do Rossio and walk around Chiado neighbourhood (there are other cool squares and monuments to see there). You can get there by subway if you're coming from somewhere else.
But if you are only visiting Lisbon, I strongly advice you to stay in Chiado or the neighbourhood around it (Bairro Alto, Carmo or Alfama). If you do so you'll be able to do almost anything by foot.
