The best viewpoints in Lisbon

Published by flag-gr Elisavet Kot — 7 years ago

Lisbon is one of the most beautiful and sunny cities in Europe. It is a multicultural city, so at some point you can feel like if you were walking around a non-European city, and that you are in a more exotic.

The best way to get around the city is by walking. The weather is so good and sunny that you will regret if you use the metro or the buses!

But, you need a pair of sneakers because it has a lot of uphills and downhills, since the whole city is built on seven hills. Although it may sound a little bit tiring, on the top of each hill you will find some of the best viewpoints, and you will not regret all the ''climbing '' that is necessary to get there!

"Miradouro" means viewpoint in Portuguese so, when you see a sign with this word, follow it until you get tired; you will be at the miradouro, enjoying the breathtaking view along with a coffee or a beer! The most famous miradouros in Lisbon are the following :

  1. Miradouro De Sao Pedro De Alcantara: it is probably the most famous miradouro in Lisbon, because it is located in the city center. From this miradouro you can see the castle of Sao Jorge, enjoy the sunset, or you can go at night and hang out there, because it is a typical spot for young and also erasmus people to hang around, drink and play instruments.

  2. Miradouro Da Senhora Do Monte: it is one of the highest miradouros in Lisbon - probably the highest. From there you can have a clear view of the whole city, the castle of Sao Jorge and the river of Tagus (Rio Tejo). It is a little bit tiring to get there by feet but it totally worths it!

  3. Miradouro Das Portas Do Sol: from this viewpoint, you can see and admire the oldest and most graphic neighborhood of Lisbon, Alfama. There is also a cafeteria to drink something while enjoying the view and the warm sun.

  4. Miradouro De Santa Catarina: From here, you can have a clear view of the river Tejo and the Ponte 25 de Abril, which resembles a lot the Golden Gate of San Francisco.

  5. Miradouro De Santa Luzia: A very nice viewpoint to see also the neighbohood of Alfama. You can find a lot of artists there, observing the view and creating and selling amazing paintings, that sometimes are more representative than photographs!

  6. Miradouro da Graca: last but not least, this miradouro is located across the castle of Sao Jorge so you can have a very nice view of it! It is the best option if you don't want to climb until the miradouro "Senhora do Monde", because it is located a little bit lower, and has almost the same view!
