Porto's Cathedral
Porto is a catholic city, therefore, like many others, it has a cathedral. Also known as Sé, in portuguese, the church is located in the historic center of the city and it is a must see in town.
Sé do Porto is one of the oldest churches in portugal and represents both the romanesque and the gothic architectures - with rock scuptures, great towers and details. It also has some tiles, typical portuguese ornament. It started to be built in the 6th century and it was restored many times until the 17th century, when the main facade was built.
Outside the church there is a monument in tribute to the bishops of the city and a statue honoring portuguese royalty.
Nowadays the church is a touristic attraction and the ancient cloister are a museum. You can visit it every day of the week from 10 am to 17 pm.
Location
Besides the history, the church is located in a high point of the city, from where you can get a great view of Porto and Gaia landscape. Really beautiful.
Also it is really close to some other nice attractions in town such as Ribeira, Luis I bridge, São Bento station and Liberty square. Therefore, a great way to get there is by foot, from attraction to attraction, getting to know the city. You can also get there by subway, from São Bento station or by cable car.
