Surrealism in the Queen Sofía

For those days made for leisure, you have to put on your shoes and go out more!

During my language exchange in Toledo, I made several weekend trips to Madrid... Obviously! I had to take advantage of the proximity and ease of transportation to the Spanish capital.

During one of these trips, I ventured out to explore the famous Reina Sofia Museum located near the metro station "Atocha". It's very easy to get to, and if you're not a walking compass, you can ask anyone and they will gladly help you.

When I visited the Eugenio Salvador Dalí exhibition I was fascinated, and in anticipation of what I might find, I presented my student card in order to pay with my special discount on the entrance fee and enter the museum.

The museum is an old hospital dating back to the 18th century so that the construction, especially outdoors, is old. However, the interiors, and what I would imagine were the bedrooms, have been adapted into rooms which are located around a large and beautiful central garden that illuminates the rest of the building.

I visited and enjoyed every detail and room of the Catalan painter's exhibition, very impressed by his work and its development over time, Dalí's love for Gala and the inspiration which the muse must have inspired him.

At the end of the tour, I did not have enough time to visit the rest of the rooms, so I decided to take a walk through the central garden and enjoy the greenery in it.

I passed by the new part of the museum, a really impressive part made by the architect Jean Nouvel and that fits perfectly onto the old building, highlighting the contrast between the old and the contemporary that the museum expresses in itself.

This modern structure also frames and contextualises Madrid through its height and steel columns.
