Cereal Hunters, cereal at any time of the day

The places which serve bowls of cereal are more and more in fashion all over the world. In Madrid, everything started with Cereal Hunters which has been opening more places all over Madrid. And, with all of the success that we have had, more brands offering the exact same thing have appeared, so it is becoming more and more common to be able to go to one of these places to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast or lunch. However, amongst tourists, it is still just as popular.

The originality particularly lies on the type of cereals that they have. You can find boxes and boxes of different brands and styles of cereals from almost every part of the world, which are usually impossible to find in shops or supermarkets.

They also have original kinds of milk. You can choose cow milk (whole, skimmed, or semi-skimmed) or other kinds such as soy or oat milk. There is also the possibility to tint the milk in colours such as red, green or blue. This is a bit silly since they also charge you extra for this, but they usually do it when people go there to take photos since apart from being a place where you can eat cereals, it is also a very usual place to go to to take pictures.

There are different sizes of bowls, bigger and smaller ones, to which you can add the cereals, milk, and if you want to pay a little extra, you can also add a topping such as Chips Ahoy! or M&M's.

For me, I love the KitKat topping. And as for cereal, I almost always choose Fruit Loops or Lucky Charms. These last ones are the most original since the Fruit Loops are the easiest brand to find in Spain. Also, they mix as many cereals as little clouds of sugar and they are very sweet and tasty. As for the milk, I always choose the normal one, the cows milk. I'm not really convinced by the colours since they don't change the flavour and they only give it a colour, which is unnecessary because the cereals almost always end up tinting the milk.

Something else very interesting and one of the reasons for going is the place itself. I am talking about the first one which opened, very close to the Tribunal metro, right in the centre of Madrid and very close to Gran Via.

From the outside, one already knows what they are going to find. The walls are all made of glass and they have the name (leaving no place for doubts) written on them several times, as much on the glass as on the lettering of the sign.

It is a small place which, when it opened, had queues every day and at all hours to be able to get a table. Now that the initial hype has passed a bit, it is a lot easier to find a seat and there are not queues at the door.

The place isn't very big. When you go in, there is an initial area of chairs and tables. After, there is the counter, and then after than there is another small area with armchairs.

The decor is the same across the shop. It is full of cereal boxes of hundreds of colours which are incredibly eye-catching. There are also walls decorated with some frames with photos from series or pictures of pop-culture in general, such as photos from Friends or the Prince of Bel Air. All the decor mixes with the blue-sky-blue colour and the red, and the aesthetic really suits it well.

As for the prices, it isn't a very cheap treat. The price isn't excessively expensive, a bowl of cereal is never going to cost over 5 euros, however, the prices are a bit high for what you are actually consuming. Also, it is true that it is very easy to find a discount code on websites such as Groupon which makes it more reasonable.

In my opinion, the place is very good to visit a couple of times, especially if you are from abroad and you miss certain cereals, which of course, you are also able to buy in their original boxes to take home. However, in my opinion, it is not the kind of place to go for a snack every afternoon since, at the end of the day, no matter how many varieties of cereals they have, the end product is always the same; there are not a lot of options to choose between.
