Seafood Lovers | Fish Market

For those that love seafood, the "Sydney Fish Market" as we call it has almost everything you need. Whether you want to grab something to eat or buy the products home for your own receipe, this place's got it in terms of freshness.

The market consists of a many different stalls, and could be divided into two main sections. One section would be for the cooked items, from oysters, lobsters, prawns, shrimps, a wide range of fish (grilled, fried, deep-fried, sashimi), sides like chips, salad, rice, etc. The other section, which is usually on the right hand side, if you walk it from the main entrance, has two main stores that offer fresh seafood, usually from the catch in the morning. There, you could get fresh seafood of all types.

However, if you were to go to the market, it's best that you go before noon, for one main reason: the produce will be at their freshest point, which means that if you do go in the afternoon, you'll be getting what is pretty much the leftover. Unfortunately, I had been there in the afternoon on a few occasions, and it was disppointing.

Be warned though, that the food items will be quite expensive, but no where close to what you would pay in the restaurants. The seats are also a bit tough to find, although there are outdoor seatings. Personally, I would not recommend outdoor seatings as they will always be gangs of birds that will look out for your food. Some birds are actually quite aggressive, and they do tend to jump at the food.. I know, sounds crazy but I'll been there.

Other than the two sections for the seafood, there are also other stalls selling fruits and vegetables, a supermarket (not a super in terms of size), and also a liquor store should a wine, beer, or cider row your boat.

There are a few different ways you could get to the Fish Market, but I would recommend either walking from Darling Harbor or taking the tram. The tram in Sydney tends to be quite expensive - and don't cheat, there's usually someone either in uniform or plain clothes checking tickets. If you were to walk, make sure you have a map or your phone with you; the directions could be a little confusing for those not used to the area.

Grab a fish, some oysters, some chips, and a beer, and enjoy the Sydney Fish Market!
