THAI ROTI! | @ BANGKOK IN SYDNEY

Published by flag- Oat Sitalasai — 9 years ago

One of the many Thai restaurants in Sydney, especially in the Thai-Town area of the city. “@ Bangkok” was recommended to me by a friend who actually works there, and she’s Thai, so it must really live up the recommendation.

The restaurant could be found easily. It’s literally right next to the Capitol Theatre, in which there is a complex that has a few restaurants and a game center just at the top. They do get quite busy especially on Fridays and Saturdays so make sure you either book a table or be there a bit early!

I must say before hand that this review is made after at least four visits to the restaurant. Getting straight to the point, the food was delicious, staff were great and the ambience was actually very similar to eating in a cramped restaurant in Thailand. Cramped in the good way though, a good squeeze.

The menu is big and has a bit of everything like most Thai restaurants in the city. Also, I must add that if two or more people are dining and order one plate of rice each, you actually have the option of paying a tiny bit more to have all you can eat rice. That was always a good idea for me, because I love Thai jasmine rice.

Some of the dishes I would recommend for those inexperienced with Thai food would be corn fritters, which are delicious as entrees to get the ball rolling. They come with a plum sauce that is sweet and sticky, delicious.

For main course, I would go for the green curry. Do not be shy to politely inform the waitress of your desired spice level! They will do their best to accommodate to your request to ensure that you thoroughly enjoy your meal.

For dessert, I would not choose anything else but one of my favorite desserts of all time. Roti, which is similar to its Indian cousin, pratta, which is fried then sprinkled with choice of toppings. In Thailand, we normally enjoy them simply with sweet condensed milk and sugar, however, you will also do well by going for the milo powder, which I went for here. Milo, for those that are not so familiar, is like a chocolate powder, but I find more delicious and sweet. The rotis are quite expensive for what they actually are, but the satisfaction will go a long way for your dollars.

A great place to dine with flavorful items from start to finish!
