Sydney is extremely well known for its brunching trend. The suburbs just next to the CBD have now seen a huge growth of cafes growing all over the place.
I've had the chance to try one of the, at "Le Monde" in the famous Surry Hills area. The area itself is well recognized by its hipster style, laid-back, casual, simply, clean cafes. In fact, Le Monde was my first ever experience of the Sydney brunch scene.
I had no real expectation of the place. The menu - as like most the cafes around - is very small and simple. It's usually divided with breakfast items that are served until a certain time, then lunch menus that begin after that. We had gone just in between the period where breakfast was about to end and lunch was about to start, so to our luck, we had the luxury of actually picking from both sections! Wow, great, because we were super hungry.
I ordered a spaghetti dish, in which you could see right under this paragraph. As to what the ingredients were, I do not recall and I'll leave that up to you guys to figure out. Taste wise, so-so. It was good, but not special. I would not use the word disappointed, but it didn't wow me, as in, if I were to return, I would choose to have something else. We were not given cheese to sprinkle over our dish, so we asked for some. Great, we got some cheese and the dish came to life, just a little bit more than before, at least. But most interesting - and shocking - of all was that, we were charged for the cheese that sat on top of our meal, yes, it was for an extra. We're not greedy or anything, but, it's either a ridiculous choice by the cafe or the cheese had come from the moon. With this hiccup further in the way of us having our meal, we really couldn't be bothered to explain our dissatifaction to the team.
Another friend order a more simple, yet better executed, breakfast sandwich, which consisted of something like fried eggs, ham and cheese. Although it tasted better, no chef - or anyone that works in the kitchen as an occupation - should fail at delivering a sandwich like this. In saying that, she had to add salt and pepper to it. Whether that is a personal thing or the sandwich lacked it.. hmm, not sure.
We also got some coffees, which were good. The ambience though, is definitely worth a visit. It's a small place, just on the side of the road, but has great atmosphere. There was just something about how the tables looked, the menu written on the black chalkboard, and the coffee machines with baristas behind them, that contributed to the setting of the place. Also, please keep in mind that I only visited this cafe once and never returned and that this could mean one of two things: either it was only not up to par that day or I didn't think it was worth it to return. The best part is, you can be the judge and have taste for yourself!
If you're interesting to try out, or even check out the menu, here's the link to their website!

PS: Surry Hills is just a cool area to take a walk in on a nice day. It is a very hip and creative neighborhood as I mentioned, and you can expect to whip out your phone or camera for some artistic moments. Sit down in any cafe for a break of good coffee and tea.
