Croissant. Donut. Dessert. Snack. Cronut. Zonut. Calories. Cheat Meal.
If any of the above ticks the box - like it did for me, in multiple boxes - then do keep reading.
A cronut could be described as combination between a croissant and donut, and texture wise Adriano Zumbo's Patisserie at The Star in Pyrmont is right on.
We went there a little snack, and we went a bit early in the afternoon because from our past experience, they do make limited quantity of the badboys, and once they're out, they're out. And your craving drags on for another day. But let's not imagine that, so if you want to check it out and grab yourself a zonut, do go a bit early!
I don't recall the exact price, but it ain't cheap. But I must say though, that it was an experience. As I mentioned, the texture was great with the crispiness of the a croissant (that falls into a million pieces) and that soft center of a proper donut. The great thing about these zonuts is the the flavors do change every one in the while.
What I had was covered in sugar and cereal, with the core being a custard that was delicious on the vanilla, caramel and a touch of cinnamon. It was buttery, but in a rich sense and not in a fatty, oil sticking on your hand and leaking through the paper sense, so no worries!
Should you now be worried about getting these zonuts because of its overload in sugar, calories and fat contents, you'll be at ease from what I will say next. The best way to get to The Star complex where the shop is, is to walk! The best spot to start from is Darling Harbor. This is one of the most beautiful and awesome spots you can get right in the middle of any major city. The beautiful harbor has a view that will surely take your breathe away. In saying this, you wil burn calories from the zonut just by getting there and leaving the place! This is such an ideal situation, isn't it?
Not only was the zonut absolutely delicious, they also look visually very good - always great for the instagram game. Yes, a few of the guys who saw it through their phone screen got jealous and was probably hating me. But don't be the person who would see this through the screen... go check it out for yoself!
