MOSAIC RESTAURANT | 1 MARTIN PLACE

Published by flag- Oat Sitalasai — 5 years ago

There is really nothing much better than a hotel-quality meal prepared with fresh ingredients that also comes at an affordable price. The place that i would like to share with you this time around is located in the heart of sydney, at martin's place and pitt street, at the one and only the westin sydney. I'm aware that i was reminded not to write posts about hotels, but i feel that this restaurant is a real exception. mosaic, the hotel's restaurant located just above the lobby is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I say with great experience of having had meals there on multiple occasions, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Let's first look into the budget side of the equation before you all turn away from this post. Breakfast is served from 6:30am up until 10:30am and you could choose from the buffet menu or the a la carte menu. In saying this, breakfast is without a doubt the most important meal of the day, so you might as well go for the full buffet and really fill up your tank for the day. The price for the full breakfast buffet choice is at $42 per person, which is really in the ballpark of other five-star hotels in the city. With this, you get to dive into different selections of foods, from cold cuts and smoked salmon, to fresh pastries and pain au chocolat. You will also enjoy their hot buffet selection with the usual culprits like bacon, sausages, hash browns, baked beans and so on. The best part though, is that you could directly communicate with the chef and order your eggs, you style! you can choose from different ingredients to make up your perfect omelet, or go for a simply fried egg, to healthier options like boiled and poached eggs. If i'm not mistaken, you could also get eggs benedict and eggs florentine here as well. Oh, I should also mention that the westin hotel brand as a whole has a health initiative for it's food and beverage outlets, with incorporates what they refer to as super foods.

These super foods are basically foods that are high in health values and are excellent choices to keep your body at its best. The idea behind is that the westin is a hotel that has all sorts of clients. They will receive business people, leisure guests and basically all market types imaginable. With this in mind, the creative kitchen teams all over the westins have come up with super foods gathered from local producers that will guarantee to keep their clients healthy during their travels away from their own kitchen. It's a really neat idea and if you're interested, you can find out more either through starwood (the company that owns the westin brand)! so just on this point before we move on, I would highly suggest that you take a lot of shots, of juice of course! They will usually glass shots of carrot, beetroot, and spinach mixed with other juices. You can always communicate with the team members there to find out more about their options for the day; they're all super friendly, especially the manager if he's still there!

The restaurant is just one level above the lobby and you can really see why the hotel is so brilliant. The property in the old post office building, well technically there is still a fully-operational post office on the other side. But the point is, half of the hotel has that classic and elegant look, while the other half is as good as any other modern spots. The best bit is, as you're enjoying your meal, you could look out across to the heritage wing of the hotel. You will see what i mean by the pictures i took, since i can't really describe it very well. There are also tables right on the bridge that connects the heritage and the main wings together. I mean, just how many restaurants in the city has this cool feature to play around with?

Great so that's on the topic of breakfast, but they also have a classy brunch on sundays. The time for this is noon until 2:30pm, and you will have all of your breakfast favourites, and more. Oh yes, a lot more. On top of that, you will get a massive buffet of starters, main courses and dessert. This is the real deal and they're always busy here, so booking is always a good idea. The brunch deal goes for $68. 00 and comes with a glass of bubbles! While the alcohol is not limitless, you will enjoy delicious roasts that are prepared just for this one day of the week! So let me make you hungry. The current menu as i read has slow cooked wagyu bolar blade and of course, pork rack. I should just stop there.

But what if you don't wake up in time for breakfast? Well, you're never too late. Stop in over for lunch. Lunch goes by the same time as sunday brunch, so that's available from noon until 2:30pm. Unfortunately there's no buffet here, but the a la carte menu has a fantastic selection of modern australian dishes with the chef's twist. You can choose from their entrées, mains and desserts, but if you're in a hurry or are just too hungry to pick the perfect combination, don't worry, because the mosaic team has already picked out some for you! This is known as their lunch plates or back then it was something along the line of a lunch bento. The idea is that you get to pick your main course, and it'll come with a starter, a side and a dessert all on the same tray. The express lane for lunch is at $38. 00 per person, a good deal considering that you're in a five-star hotel and are having every single course!

From my experience, i've had the lunch plate and it's fantastic. I love fish and chips and was craving it big time then, so i went for the fish option of tempura battered blue eye cod with broccolini and chilli mayo. The name sounds amazing already, but wait until you see the picture just right below. So it came with an entrée with was duck i believe. The side dish at the time was truffle mash potato, in which i could still say today, was one of the top three mash potatoes i've ever had in my 21 years of existence. The dessert is self explanatory and by the time i finished my main meal, I was already happy.

Another friend had gone for corn fed chicken breast with carrots and baby corn. I didn't get to try hers, but you would get the idea of their lunch plate concept. The menu and items on the plates are always changing, so if you're curious, be sure to check out their website at the bottom of this post.

And for the last meal of the day, dinner. I've had dinner once today and i might say that there's just something about dimmed lights and the mysterious elegance of the heritage side that set up for a great atmosphere. The service here is a little bit more slow, in a good way though. It's dinner time, and most of us are done for the day. There's no need to rush or have that sense of urgency from the dynamics of the working hours! The dinner experience was thoroughly enjoyable with the pace of the service and the delicious cuisine. Again, there's no buffet here, nor lunch plates. You have the freedom and the time to enjoy good food now, so you can freely select from their starters, main courses and desserts. I won't go into details for main courses or what we had, but i will talk about something that's been lacking in this post, dessert! There's no better way to wrap up a good meal with something sweet. While you may get a bit of headache choosing for to have for desserts, I would strongly recommend their chocolate fondant. This is really how chocolate fondant should be done in my opinion. The texture on the outside is slightly crispy and soft just on the inner, but the core, like the real inside-inside, is like a lava of chocolate. There's nothing better than all of this combined with a scoop of clean, vanilla ice cream. That really made me a happy person. Another great thing about meals here is that the menu has wine pairings for every single item, so you don't always have to ask the staff for assistance.

And just one last thing i would like to add, is their lobby bar on ground level just next to the lobby. You can get great drinks here after your meal and sit in the epicenter of the classic building. They also have a cool high tea menu here too! Bookings are an absolute must for their classic afternoon experience, as places are limited and they prepare their food fresh on the day of. Oh, and also, teas and coffees during this experience are bottomless, if you know what i mean.

Just to bring this whole experience in full circle, this is by no means something that you should be doing every single week. So let me leave with this: mosaic always has offers and themed-brunches when appropriate, like the valentines period, or mother's day and so on and so forth. For more information, i'll be sure to check out their website so the latest menu and what's going on!
