GRILL'D | SWEET CHILI CHICKEN BURGER

Published by flag- Oat Sitalasai — 9 years ago

Alright, this one is for the burger lovers out there. If you happen to live in Worldsquare or nearby and are craving a burger with a difference, do try out "Grill'd" at the shopping center.

The decor is nice, almost like a typical suburban café: very relaxing, wooden tables, even long tables for multiple groups, books, newspapers, magazines. Very Aussie stuff in my opinion, but very nice. Oh, there are outdoor seatings too!

I had something along the line of a grilled sweet-chili sauced-marinated chicken, with a side of fries - which was a very a risky choice at the time, because how tasty could a burger with grilled chicken be? My friend, went for safer option, a classic beef burger with the usual.

I must note though, that fries are not included, but that you need to add it for an extra cost.Sauces, like your usual ketchup or mayo or whatever you dip your fries in, are also not included. They do, however, have a variety of sauces you could choose.

Portion wise, both the fries and the burgers were in generous sizes

Taste wise, my chicken burger was quite a disppointment, give that I had hoped for a more flavorful experience. The chicken breast, which was grilled, was a bit too dry for my liking. And the taste of the sweet-chili sauce which is usually packed with flavor, was definitely lacking, making any taste of the sauce close to inexistent.

Another thing, this time with the fries - or chips. I didn't like how the fries were toasted in salt AND herbs. Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I would prefer that my fries were sprinkled with salt. The herbs took away that flavor that's unique to fries. But no biggie, just inform the staff how you would like your fries!

I think my friend on the other hand had a far better experience. Not a single word of complaint. Perhaps it was me that chose a not so common option, but I do believe that everything on the menu should be as good as the others, otherwise it shouldn't be on the menu in the first place. Okay that was a bit harsh, but perhaps it was also because I tried it once and never gave it a second chance.

One thing other than the food and the decor that really stood out for me was the fact thatthey're consistently involved in charities. With your purchased meal, you will be given a little coin or token, in which you could then drop in a little box. There were three boxes when I went, with three different charities, raising money and awareness for three different causes in three different parts of the world. I believe, the box that earned the most coin, will receive the largest donation. The runner up will also receive donation but at a lower sum. The third placed box, will also receive money, but at a lower amount than the second. Either way, fantastic idea for giving back to the community!

Now it's for you to give it a go, but of course, at your own expense! - at least with the grilled chicken sweet-chili burger.

PS 1: Since I LOVE BURGERS, and assuming tha you do too, check out their website for the latest menu, so that perhaps you could plan your meal beforehand. There are definitely a lot more places outside that serve up a killer of a burger!

PS 2: If you really do love burgers and have a drink or two while you're at it, Parlour Burger on George Street towards Circular Quay is a must try. The exact address is 225 George Street and it's right next to the famous The Morrison Sydney. Unlike the restaurant neighboring it, you won't need to make a reservtion here. If anything, it's a chill spot that you could sit and chat in a bar atmosphere. Burgers here are ALL $10, but keep in mind that sides come for an extra. If I were you, I would try either their "Dirty" burger which comes is as cheesy and bacony as it gets or their "Black Widow" which is literally black from the charcoal bun. You must also get their "Duck Fat Chips". Deliciousness overload here, I guarantee.
