BONDI TO COOGEE WALK!

Published by flag- Oat Sitalasai — 9 years ago

It is fair to conclude that the majority of my posts have been all food related. While this stunning statistic speaks volume of what a hardcore eater I am, I also do my part in staying healthy and burning off all those calories. If you’re in Sydney or ever plan to visit this great Australian city, I would share to share with you a great walk that will guarantee at least 10,000 steps.

The famous walk that I am referring to is the great Bondi to Coogee walk. The important part here is to take either the bus directly to Bondi Beach, or like me, take the train to Bondi Junction, then continue on with the bus to Bondi Beach. I would suggest that you start the walk from Bondi Beach, since there’s a lot more to see there, but you could really go either way depending on which direction you’re coming from.

Just a few important pointers to prepare yourself for the walk:

- Consider the time of the day in which you would like to do the walk. The duration will vary depending on the condition of the terrain and how fast you walk. We took about two hours, on and off with pictures here and there, to get from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach.

- Wear something really comfortable! I would strongly recommend that you wear clothes you would exercise with. Wear something that you won’t be afraid to sweat in. Shoes are really important too. As far as fashion is concerned, you will do well to prioritise the comfort of your feet for this walk!

- Start the walk with a full tank, as in eat something before hand!

- Bring a backpack so you could put in your essentials. Mainly, you need to have a bottle of water with you, since shops or water taps are far and few throughout the walk.

- Sun screen! It’s an open walk and you will not get any cover, unless the clouds are plentiful.

Alright, hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything.. and now you’re ready for the walk! This six kilometer walk will take you along the coast just hugging the beautiful blue waters. You will experience unmatched views of the beaches, the seas, the rocks, the parks and other great treasures. Certain time of the year will see art exposition displayed along the walk as well. I was lucky enough to see one of the exposition during my time there.

About 10 minutes away from the center of Coogee, you will be an a beach area very similar to that at Bondi, but at a much smaller scale. If you’re up for a game of beach volleyball, you can always ask the locals on the sandy beach to join up. This is a great way to socialise with the locals and don’t be afraid, they’re all really nice! They’re people that’ve met each other and played together through asking to join in, so I would really take up this chance if you’re into volleyball like I am.

As you arrive in Coogee Beach, you will also enjoy walking up its main street, Arden Street. Here, you will be spoiled with numerous options for eateries, bars and cafes. If you still have a bit of energy left in you, or if you’re really up for a proper adventure, you could also plan to have a picnic in one of Coogee’s many spots. Make sure that you grab a fresh-squeezed juice and/or an ice cream from one of the many stores in the area.

After you’ve one all of this, my guess is that you’re tank will almost be empty. The good news is, you don’t have to walk all the way back to Bondi Beach to get home! There are bus stoppers just on the main road that will get you almost everywhere. We caught a bus which came about every 15 minutes, that took us right back to the city. The bus ride will take you through the suburbs and is another great way to see how people live outside of the city.

On a separate note, I would also recommend that you visit both Bondi Beach and Congee Beach as well as other nearby areas. Come nicely dressed for this occasion so you could enjoy a drink and a great time with friends in one of the many bars and restaurants. While there are many places to do just this in the city, nothing will match being in a location where the sea is just 100 meters away! By all means, this is a very summer destination, but you can also enjoy the peace and tranquility during cold periods.

Other things you may also enjoy while going at it:

- Walk along the beach at Bondi and all the way up to the residential area for a breathtaking view of the whole area

- Catch either the sun rise or sun set at Bondi Beach for a photo opportunity that you cannot get anywhere else

- Try some local fish and chips! Any place will do really, just for that Aussie experience

- Stop by at Bondi Junction for some shopping, eating, and cinemas if you desire

- Stay hydrated and happy walking!
