The Garden of Cármenes
I wanted to give you a brief summary of Los Cármenes. They could be described as "typical gardens" of Granada.
On the way to the Alhambra, we find this area that is characterised by its cobbled streets, white houses, its high location in Granada, its always uphill slopes and surrounding ourselves with the old and pervious Granada.
They are located in the Albaicin, where they are more typical, and if you continue climbing you can reach the Alhambra.
The most special way to get here is on foot so you can appreciate all that this area has to offer; all its magic. Getting into the car is a waste, getting into the bus can be a good option as long as we walk down not to miss anything of this plan.
It is a very happy walk, because you will always find people who are going to the same garden as you, you will find people who live in those houses and whatever the season or time of year, you will find tourism, because everyone who comes to Granada comes to see something unusual, as this is, which is can't be found in just any neighbourhood of any village. This is precisely what makes it so special.
In the many years that I have been in Granada, I have only visited them once, but I'm not ruling out a visit soon, although right now the weather is bad and the best thing to do is to go in spring, with a little bit of sun but not too much that it scorches us (because walking so much and going up so many slopes will make us sweat).
The most famous garden or area that I have gone to had large fountains, landscaped courtyards, small viewpoints along the way, and there was an area with a house (I can't give much information about it) which you could access through the area outside. It had beautiful peacocks walking free. The peacocks were really nice, very exotic and well cared for. When I saw them it reminded me of the old movies with ladies and gentlemen, as they are so full of color.
Here are some photos of the visit that I went on two or three years ago.
I can not describe much more, for me was a guided tour and perhaps it is better that you discover for yourselves because it is a place with a lot of charm.
I would recommend that if you have an alright budget, you could also stop to eat in one of the bars or restaurants in the area, around one of the viewpoints themselves or near them, which may not be suitable for everyone's tastes, but for those who can afford it will be exquisite food.
Another good option is, when a friend comes to visit you, if you run out of ideas on what to do, come here to enjoy the scenery and Granada.
I give this day plan an 8, for the simple reason that once it is seen, it doesn't surprise you anymore, although it is a very nice place to spend the afternoon or to do a little tourism.
