CACHO Y PEPE – Granada

Source

Where is it?

Cacho y Pepe is located in Calle Colcha, number 6, in the Realejo neighbourhood, obviously in Granada.

It’s very easy to find, since it is on a side street of one of Granada’s main streets, Calle Reyes Catolicos, which cuts the city from North to South, where it becomes Calle Recogidas which I will speak about in due course. This street cannot be unheard of to anyone who has been to Granada at least once.

For anyone who wants get a deeper idea of Cacho y Pepe, I will leave their link below so you can see what they offer:

How to get there

If you are arriving by car, parking in this city can surely be a problem and you will be forced to leave it quite far from the restaurant. Obviously, being a city undoubtedly on a human-scale, everything is relative in Granada. Let’s say that from where I recommend you to park your car, you will be ‘forced’ to a very pleasant 10 minute walk. One of the solutions that I definitely have to advise is to leave your car in a non-paying area and the best place would be at Neptuno shopping centre’s big car park which may ring a bell to some people as it holds on of Granada’s most popular nightclubs, Mae West, another attraction which I will definitely be able to talk about later on in my reviews.

Furthermore, it is an area that is very well served by the urban mobility service, which could be said for the whole city.

In fact, from here many lines pass which take you straight to Gran Via de Colon. So, difficulty arriving to this place could never be a good excuse to not go there!

What are the opening times and days?

Usually they are open every day of the week. However it is worth saying that much like in the rest of the city, the hours are not completely rigid as they can be in other parts of Europe or Spain.

Sometimes it can be found closed without really understand the reason, but it should be known that this can happen with the majority of restaurants in this city, especially those that are smaller or family-run.

Could you describe the place to me physically?

Offering only two small tables, it is very intimate and cosy. The impression given after trying it once is that the small size of the place goes hand in hand with the familiar treatment which awaits you in the service of the manager.

The whole place is filled with cans full of Italian products, and knowing the Bel Paese pretty well, I can assure you that these are real delicacies and with products that are really hard to find, especially thousands of miles away, like those that separate restaurant managers from their homeland.

Come to think of it, there must be some connection between the small size of the premises in this city and their success. I don't think it is a coincidence that all of the most successful businesses are decidedly under-sized compared to the average customer flow.

What do you recommend ordering?

Let's start by saying that ‘cacio e pepe’(Italian), which becomes ‘cacho y pepe’ in Spanish, is a typical Roman seasoning for pasta, as any Italian friends who are reading this will obviously know. In fact, the typical products are all strictly Italian, with a quality that is honestly very difficult to find in this city, for foods of this type. Fresh pasta, first courses to take away or to eat in and last but not least, the cheeses. Dairy products are actually partly made on site, by a master cheese maker, which is a professional in the making of cheeses. This, believe me, is in fact the only way to ensure the absolute freshness of the product, even considering all the difficulties of transporting perishable products to here.

The best sellers of this place are, by the way, mozzarella and burrata. Clearly it is aimed above all at the large Italian community residing in Granada for reasons of study. The restaurant, however, has in effect entered the hearts of so many Spanish nationals, and it is no coincidence that it is located in one of the most authentic neighbourhoods of the city, Realejo

Since it is a place that also offers a take-away service, it is also possible to order the dishes you want by telephone and collect them without waiting, at the set time.

And the cost?

The prices are very honest. Not only in absolute terms, but also considering the city average, which is definitely low. If we then move on to the issue of value for money, well, here Cacho y Pepe wins hands down against the majority of contenders of the same category, that is Italian cuisine. Many Italian restaurants here cook dishes that have little to nothing of traditional value, with products of fairly dubious provenance, which end up distorting all that is the real Italian culinary philosophy. Getting straight to the point, which is what you are interested in, for a quick and substantial lunch you will spend more or less five euros, and by adding a few extra coins you can combine main courses, desserts, side dishes, tasting boards or anything your appetite and curiosity suggest you in the moment.

Would you recommend it for other occasions too?

Let me start by saying that for a romantic outing, it is not necessary to go to particularly well-sought after places, with opulent furnishings or dishes with complicated names...

I also like haute cuisine, of course. But presentation does not always reflect reality, and often ends in disappointment. Cacho y Pepe, on the contrary, is something that always turns its appearance to its own advantage. And anyway, trust me, you will surely make a good impression by proving to be a fine connoisseur of the culinary traditions of the country that boasts the greatest tradition in the subject matter....

So, in the end, the correct day to visit the friendly managers of this place, is simply any day that you spend in this city for whatever reason.
