Český Krumlov is a small village in the south of Czech Republic, in the Bohemian Region, it is well recognized day and night by the castle it has in the middle of the city. The old part of the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I arrived in Český Krumlov by night, the train station is a little bit far from old town, i guess it's more or less 30 min by foot. As soon as I got closer to the city center we spot the bug castle located in there and even at night the view was astonishing.
I stayed with some friends one night in Travel Hostel, really nice hostel in a old building, inside the decoration was really cosy with old wooden furniture. Downstairs the hostel had a pub where you could enjoy some beers while playing some games with your friends, which is the best thing to do there at night, since the nightlife is not that "alive" in the village.
The best way to get know the city and go to the right places is, of course, to do a free tour! I can't recall the name of our guide, but it was awesome! It is the only free tour available in the city, the guide was a ± 40 year old guy who knew a lot about the history of the town and the castle. As we didn't had much time to spend in the city it was the best way to go to everywhere and enjoy the view from special spots.
The village itself is very small, it has small and colorfull houses with eyes on the roofs as I used to say (not eyes, just windows!), the river around town just gives a magical touch to the view. there are a lot of tradicional shops and tradicional restaurants, if you have not tasted any czech dish before, you can do it here! Talking about food, I think that one of the best trdelniks I ate during my five months in the country was here, it was the perfect sweet you need in the middle of a day spent walking around.
This trip to Český Krumlov was part of a two day trip outside Prague, on the first day we visited České Budějovice, the two towns are really close, but this one is not worth the trip, in my opinion. It's a small town with few things to see besides the Budweiser Brewery.
