Noir Chocobar

Hello all!

Everything started on my birthday 3 years ago. Two of my best friends from the university waited for me in the front of the university after classes. I was suspecting that something out of common is going to happen, but I trusted them, and entered in the challenge they proposed. They commanded me to close my eyes, and don’t open it till we arrive at the destination. I think half of Budapest thought that I’m completely going crazy, by walking with eyes closed, hand in hand with my girls. They were the guides and I followed them. We laughed the whole way, and hat a really good time. It was funny, I had to absolutely base myself on them and trust them wherever they’re leading me to go. But to be honest, I kind of knew what to expect from my creative friends. I was excited about their surprise. I knew it’s going to be something great.

I am sweet-toothed and crazy about chocolate and the first impression after arriving in a staircase which goes down right to our destination (still with closed eyes), was that this place represents me 100% because, while standing in the staircase I felt an immense smell of chocolate. Then my girls let me open my eyes, and I could read the inscription above our heads: ‘Noir Chocobar’.

Noir Chocobar is the one and the only chocolate bar in Budapest. It’s located in the 6th district (in my opinion the most beautiful one), close to the Hungarian State Opera and ruin pubs (Nagymező street, Király and Dob streets), right in the heart of the city on the line of 4/6 tram and yellow metro (nr. 1 ). This chocolate speciality and delicatesse bar was established in 2005. It is in fact a bar in a basement, under the ground. From the outside it doesn’t seem a big attraction, and its inside is also plain and simple. It’s power hides in something else. Brown pouffes, dark brown desks, simple and modest decorations, chocolate aromatic candles (of course) and paintings on the wall (embodying chocolate, and motives about chocolate). That’s the outfit of the place. The atmosphere is pleasant and chill. The place is shady, only candles and small bulbs provide ligh, thus this place is perfect for dates and for a small groups of friends (4-5 people). It's romantic and sensual. Behind this nice environment hides Heaven itself, another universe, another dimension. Noir Chocobar’s particularity is chocolate itself. In the dimension where ears and eyes are not competent anymore, you just have to let in the olfactory and gustatory stimuli. A truly sweet sensation!

Noir Chocobar is an exclusive and exquisite bar. Refined people are welcomed! Serving a ‘meal’ at Noir Chocobar is an expensive fun, but once in a year, or on special occasions I don’t have anything against it. There are hot, cold, warm, icy, solid and liquid desserts. The only problem we had to face was that we could not decide what speciality to try. After almost half an hour of hesitating the we decided ourselves. We ordered a rum and walnut flavored hot chocolate, a chocolate shake with almond and orange, and a South-American cocoa essence.

Noir Chocobar offers its guests a treatment for soul. Let’s just not talk about its effects on the body, and the accumulated calories. Let’s see, what can we serve here. 1st, cocoa essences, containing a large percentage of cocoa. These essences are very concentrated, so only a little quantity is offered. There are tons of types of cocoa from all over the World (Peru, Ecuador, Madagascar, Costa Rica, etc. ). Then you could try a chocolate fondue, which is a kind of melted chocolate, in which you can immerse fruits, cookie, sponge cake or chocolate pieces.

The third speciality is the desserts. You can choose among traditional Hungarian desserts, and fusion desserts. The most important criteria is, that they all contain a very concentrated cocoa flavor, chocolate mousse, ice-cream, melted chocolate or hot chocolate. These are delicatessens in which chocolate often gets combined with whipped cream, fruits, rum and nuts.

The 4th chapter is about hot chocolates. Impressive cups of hot-chocolate, cups of chocolate beutifully decorated with whipped cream, cocoa powder, pieces of Belgian chocolate, and many more. Moreover, there is a wide selection of tastes to combine with the chocolate from lavender to marshmallow-flavor, currant, pistachio, salt (salt! ), chili, ginger, and many more. Surely everyone knows Toblerone, M&M’s, Bounty, Snickers or minty After Eight chocolate. Here you can have these flavors in liquid composition, with pieces of chocolate in it.

Good news, on the 5th place there are alcoholic hot-chocolates and ice-chocolate specialities with Bailey’s, whisky, liqueur, unicum, rum and even vodka. Of course if you want to choose something more common, something you are used with, you can have simple shakes, frappes and teas - but I think it’s worth experiencing with the tastes. Being venturous and challenging your tongue and taste buds is fun! I am enormously thankful to my friends for this surprise they organized for me.

Thanks for reading,

Dora
