Get ready, today it’s time to talk about tasty things. Discovering and being in Budapest can be perfect, but no…it can’t. Unless You miss a little thing. Even if the sightseeing is amazing, the atmosphere of the city leaves speachless. The magic, beauty, elegance, majesty. You fall in love with it, till you don’t try Levendula ice-cream (meaning lavender). You have to taste the city’s best hand-made ice cream. Levendula ice-cream is the last piece of the pyramid of joy. Not only for gourmets, but also for vegans or those who follow gluten-free, lactose-free and sugar-free diet.

We live our daily-lives surrounded by new impulses all the time. Our eyes see everyday different things, our ears are challenged by new songs and sounds, our minds collect new informations and integrate them. All of this without salivary glands, and what about our tongue?

If I say ice-cream, you say chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. That's all. And that's the problem. Because these are the most popular tastes. Magnum ice-cream is one of the best ones worldwide. And I do agree with this, because I think its chocolate, almond, nougat, nuts flavors are unbeatable. Maybe Frozen Yogurt is also queen of ice-cream, its fruity varieties are healthy and tasty as well. But have you ever tried Gouda cheese ice-cream with Egri Bikavér Red wine? Or violet (yes, the flower) flavor with minty raspberry? Or Camembert? I guess not. And that’s why it’s worth visiting Levendula ice-cream bar. Challenge your taste buds!

Levendula is opened the whole year. During the wintertime the chocolates and hot chocolate are served, during Summer there are approximately 20-25 different varieties of ice-creams at your disposal. The ‘Menu’ changes every week, because the guys from Levendula like to experiment and create new mixes and tastes. There is a Levendula ice-cream shop near Jászai-Mari tér, one at Fővám tér, close to Kálvin, and two more at the Uránia, and Deák Ferenc tér. I discovered Levendula 4 years ago, when I started my studies in Budapest. The shop is purple-coloured like lavender, and there’s a big retro violet bike and a bench at each store’s entrance. Inside you can smell the honey smell of lavender, which has a calming effect. Perfect choice! Because you’re going to need something to calm you down, when you’ll find Youself puzzled while facing the icebox. Don’t panic if you can’t decide which sortiment to choose after spending twenty minutes in the store. It happens even to me. It’s normal. Even after 4 years it’s normal. One of life’s hardest decisions is made at Levendula.

Minty raspberry, Chocolate with lavender, Green tea flavor, Chocolate with chilli, Rose, Blue Curacao, Poppy seed flavor, Rosé, Chianti Red Wine, Straciatella White chocolate with Basil, Pistachio, Ruccola with Cheesecake and many other flavors. And as I already mentioned, there are types which are sweetened with stevia, types which don’t contain gluten and lactose. Heaven!

The price is fair, but at the shop at Deák Ferenc tér you have to pay a bit more, as it’s a central store, more frequented by tourists. I rather choose paying a bit more for a good quality dessert that’s handmade, and natural, then buying a simple chocolate for less money full of sugars. A treat at Levendula is affordable four-five times a month during Summer. And I bet You won’t regret it.
