This is definitely one of the places on earth that are worth
revisiting. Every time you lay your feet on the magyarország ground
you have the chance to discover a new favourite pub, admire the
spectacular architecture while having a taste of the fine cuisine
Hungary has to offer.
Let's start with where to stay.
Definitely on the Pest side as it has more to offer and a must be for
cool kids ;) Pick a place between Kálvin tér and Fővám tér and you
will gain a nice view on both sides of the city, on the river Danube
and great communication. What I can personally recomend is Age
Budapest Youth Centre on Ráday utca - say hi to the great host Peter!
:) Location is just perfect an entire street with cafes, restaurants
and pubs. Have a nice lunch menu on the corner with Erkel utca and a
drink in the evening in Puder in Raday Utca, 8. Second option is
Central Budapest Apartment Lónyay utca 19 that even offers you a
washing machine, self-catering, city guide and very helpful & friendly
people running the place.
Where to go?
Let's start with a bit of history on Buda side. Statue of liberty and
citadel, a popular lookout point on top of Gellert Hill. Offers you a
great view on the entire city and nice place to chill with a bottle of
wine with friends in the evening, You can get there either with a bus
or climbing. Same goes for the Buda Castle offering again a view
across Budapest and UNESCO protected view on the Parliament - believe
me you just can't get enought of it! After you can enjoy a bath at
Gellért Thermal Bath.
Heading back to the Pest side stop by the central market hall for some
shopping, great selection of vegetables, meat & spices is only a part
of what this place has to offer. Go upstairs for a typical bufet with
wide choice of Langos and many more. Have a Fröccs (white wine and sparkling water) and decide whatkind of souvenir you would like - best price guaranteed;)
Worth seeing is Heroe's square and the Vajdahunyad castle. Last but not
least historical and creepy place to see is the Saint Stephen's
Basilica and the mummified hand of the founding king of Hungary...
Exosting right? It's time to relax - Margaret Island is the place to
be. You can spend even the entire day as it offers numerous leisure
activities, like swimming pool, athletic centre, Water Tower, Musical
Fountain, open-air clubs and many more. Just rent a bike and enjoy. In the vening there is also a really entertaining show at the fountain near the entrance of the island where music is played and water and some lightning follow the rhythm of the tune. Very romantic too!
After so much attractions I would recomend to have a dinner not far
from the island - Kiskakukk, Pozsonyi út 12. Great menu and I can
really recomend the duck (it's really half a duck so challengeaccepted! ;)
Have a walk and a glass of wine with a view on the Parliament. You can
also take the tram Number 2 from beginning till the end, the route is accross
the river and offers nice views.
Night life! Deák Ferenc tér and the area around offers a lot of
possibilities to spend your evening. Great place to be is Akvárium
Klub . After you can move in the direction of Dohány Street and
Synagogue (history!) to find Szimpla Kert Kazinczy utca 14. If you
like this style go during the day to Csendes Vintage Bar & Café on
Ferenczy István utca 5. Again you are in the center to rock the city!
Budapest gives you a lot of options to spend time, be sure to reserve
at least three days to explore this incredible city!
