La Tienda de Vélez is the third restaurant owned by the Vélez brothers in Cádiz. It is handily located on the number one bus route, almost exactly opposite the Playa Victoria Hotel, so is very easy to find. However its location means that it of course doesn’t have a view, but this is no worry as the restaurant itself is decorated in the typical Vélez brothers style, bright and airy, with lots of white, stylish décor and clean lines. So the absence of a view doesn’t detract from the dining experience.
The Menu is again different from the other two restaurants, although there are some similar dishes. There is a section dedicated to omelettes and salads, as well as an international dishes section that includes burgers and noodles, unfortunately the menu is only available in Spanish, so it can be a bit difficult to know what a couple of things are, but the waiters were more than happy to help. I ordered a pork roll, which was delicious and similar to the one that I usually have at Balandro, but presented differently. I also chose the beef tenderloin from the meat section of the menu, although it was a bit more expensive it was definitely worth it. I didn’t need 2 main dishes, as the portion sizes were very fair, but I couldn’t resist. Everyone else was also pleased with their food, which was all presented very elegantly and cooked to perfection. I also treated myself to a desert, an ice cream and chocolate sponge tower, with chocolate sauce. The three textures of chocolate was also on the menu, which Kath ordered again, but this time it came with thick chocolate sauce rather than custard which was a definite improvement.
The main difference that we found in this restaurant was that there are normal height chairs and tables, that allowed for fourteen of us to sit together for our meal, and the waiter came over to the table to take the orders and give us our food, unlike at the other Vélez brothers restaurants where you have to get up and go to the bar to order and collect your food, this made for a really nice change. The price range is very fair, you can easily get a delicious meal for between €10 and €20, even including one of the more pricey meat dishes (when I say more pricey I am talking about €7 to €8 rather than €4 to €5). All in all it was a real treat to visit this restaurant and we will certainly be returning, especially with a large party, as it is easier to seat us all here, and the food is guaranteed to be delicious.
