screaming of colors and taste, take your taste buds on an adventure
Mexican food. This word carries so much enthusiasm in it that any time I hear it I automatically get excited. Excited as in my taste buds start exploding and my mouth starts to water; and it’s 1 am in the morning so this is basically like torture. Now that’s the power of Mexican food. It carries so much craze, dash and joy along with it. So today I'm going to introduce to you guys one of my favorite spots to have Mexican food in Kuala Lumpur. The place screams color and offers such warmth that you’ll feel right at home.
The place is called “Las carretas”, the restaurant has a few several branches in all across Kuala Lumpur but I'm going to talk about the “Subang” branch. Although the restaurant has a branch in “Ampang” and another one in “Damansara”, I have been to enough places to know that just because they are all branches of the same franchise doesn’t mean they are all of the same quality. Therefore, for the record again I have only been to the “Subang” branch.
How to get there:
The exact address of the place is: Number 29, Jalan USJ 10/1f, Taipan Business centre, 47620 Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur.
Once again the easiest way to get there is by a car; generally Subang Jaya is not well equipped with public transport. You could of course use “Grab” or “Uber” too, which are more efficient and save you some cash. Man they should start paying me with the amount of marketing I’m doing for them. There is also an option of taking the LRT (The metro) from any station and getting off at the “Subang Jaya” station and getting a cab from there, which would cost a lot less as the restaurant is about 10 minutes with a car from the station.
Description and experiences:
There isn’t an advanced booking required, as I we went there without a reservation every time. Although I suggest, making a booking in advance during the weekend and public holidays. Also keep in mind that, given this is a Mexican restaurant they are often closed from 3 to 5 pm; if I'm not mistaken. Given that’s the “Siesta” time, in which the kitchen takes a short break and then opens again for the afternoon.

The place isn’t as large as I imagined its a cozy little place with brightly colored walls and lots of posters on the walls. Just like Mexican food itself the restaurant was also screaming colors. On the day we went it wasn’t that crowded, we went and sat upstairs, it was a little quieter and more intimate. In my opinion this place is suitable for any type of dinner plans you might have whether it's romantic dinners, family dinners or business meetings.

We got settled down and then they brought us some complimentary nachos with salsa dip, on the house, man we really did enjoy that. Given they literally give you nothing for free or basically on the house in Malaysia, this was a nice feeling for a change. I'm serious though, one time I went to a restaurant and asked for a slice of lemon, a slice not even a whole lemon and they charged me 4. 00 Ringgits extra for that one slice. It wasn’t so much that I had a problem with paying the 4 bucks; it was just that I found it a little obnoxious if I'm being honest. Anyhow so we enjoyed the free tortillas and man they really filled us up. My friend then ordered a bottle of wine for 200 bucks (Ringgits), which he would later keep us waiting till he finishes the whole bottle. I was as usual keeping it alcohol free so I didn’t drink.

We then started browsing the menu, I would have ordered everything on the menu if I could, that’s one of my bucket list items but I could neither eat nor pay for the entire menu, so I settled with only ordering one meal and a drink. Now I have tried quite few of their foods so these are my suggestions:
- The “Fajitas” in this place are amazing, due to a few reasons. First of all, the portion is enormous, it's extremely filling, and that is if you finish it. Second of all, it's so worth the price, the mixed beef and chicken fajita costs about 34 ringgits and that is a very fair price. Lastly it tastes awesome and very authentic, that statement is self-explanatory.
- My second favorite dish of this place is the “Enchiladas”. Gosh it tastes very heavenly and the cheese just melts in your hand. I can’t even describe it without getting hungry myself. The enchiladas cost about 27 ringgits. The portion is also reasonable, not too small.
- The “Quesadillas” are wonderful as well. The Quesadilla costs roughly the same as the fajita and is just as filling. I personally like fajitas and enchiladas more but that’s solely a personal preference.
I think you guys get the point, this place has good Mexican food but traditional Mexican dishes aren’t the only good things about this place. The steaks are also awesome. Although as I mentioned before I'm not a big fan of steaks but thankfully I interrogate my friends a lot about their foods so according to their recommendation the “Chuleton de Bisket” is the best one. It contains 450 grams of Australian grain fed meat. It comes with sides of salad and french fries. It costs about 65 ringgits.

For the sides, I always order some extra sour cream, because you can never have too much sour cream. Their other mentionable sides are “Papas fritas” which are steak fries and “Tortilla fritas” which are deep fried tortilla chips with salsa.
Lastly the drinks, I can just say don’t try the lime juice, it's super bad. Apart from that all their juices are freshly squeezed and good. The mojito is also amazing probably my favorite drink there; I really liked it, made me feel like I was on vacation in Mexico itself.
The drinks from the bar are all very good and extremely diverse. The drink menu on it's own will take about half an hour to go through and decide. There is literally any drink there, let it be vodka, gin, wine or magaritas. So take your time!
I have been to this restaurant many times and there is always something else to try, so I don’t think one could get bored of that place. They have also special birthday celebrations which are kinda cute, especially for kids.
I hope you guys do check this place out and enjoy this piece
Cheers!
