great Mexican and American fusion

We live another day, to talk about food once again. Food which is my favorite topic of all time, one that I will never get tired of speaking about. Okay so today I'm going to write about one of my favorite casual dining places in all of Kuala Lumpur. Remember in one of my past blog posts I mentioned that there is nothing more satisfying than loving a restaurant so much that you become a regular there? Well that is exactly what “Chili’s” is to me. It’s almost as if my brain automatically thinks of it every time someone asks the question of “where should we eat today” And there goes my brain screaming “Chili’s”. Anyways enough with the exaggeration, Chili's has a “Tex-Mex” style dining and menu. For those of you who don’t know what “Tex-Mex” is, it’s a fusion of Mexican food and American cuisines, probably my favorite type of fusion ever.

Chili’s which is originally an American franchise has many branches all across the world, especially in the south East Asia and the middle east. However today I'm going to talk about a special branch located in Suria Klcc shopping mall, located in Kuala Lumpur city centre. Even though I had tried Chili’s at two other branches apart from the Klcc branch, this one stays my favorite.

How to get there:

First of all, it is probably one of the most accessible locations ever. Suria Klcc shopping mall is the shopping mall that is located in between the Petronas twin towers. Depending on which area you are coming from, you can possibly get there by using any public transport medium. The easiest are the public bus and the LRT (the metro). If you get there by the LRT you should get off at the station named KLCC and then walk over the tunnel and enter the shopping mall. Now Chili’s is located on the third floor, next to the cinema. If you take the central escalator, the restaurant would be the first thing you see as you are climbing.

Description and experiences:

Nine out of ten times, the place is super crowded during lunch and even more so during dinner hours. So I suggest if you want to eat there, first swinging by the place and reserving a table. They will let you know in how many minutes your table will be ready, majority of times it won’t take more than 30-40 minutes maximum.

The environment is very warm and luminous, that’s one way to put it. You would feel very comfortable as it is cozy too. The window side tables have a view of Klcc Park and the fountains that have beautiful waterworks. So I guess it’s nice to be seated around there. Apart from being a restaurant, Chili’s is also a bar so I guess you guys could swing by for some drinks and appetizers too. although I have never done that myself, I always end up ending some big fat burger or something. It's hard to resist, alright?

So the most important part of every restaurant, the menu. The menu is honestly really good and diverse. As I mentioned before there is both types of Mexican and American food in it. Amongst my favorite appetizers are the classic nachos, which as the name suggests are classic. Gosh what would you guys do without my guidance? The Texas cheese fries are also really good and they are super filling so I guess you could order one and each try a bit. Lastly the triple dipper, which I think is a good save and you also get to try three of their appetizers all at once. We always get this one, when we go there in groups of 4 or 5. You get to choose three of their appetizers. Your choices could be wings over buffalo, southwestern egg rolls, spiced breaded onion rings and a few more.

Now getting to the main point, which is of course the main course. I am a big fan of Chili’s hamburgers so naturally I order a hamburger every time I go there. My two favorite burgers are, “Mushroom- Swiss burger” which as its name suggests has mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese in it, among other main ingredients of course. And my second favorite is “Oldtimer” which is also Chili’s classic burger. It’s a very simple burger but extremely tasty and cheaper than the rest of the burgers. In all of Chili’s burgers and steaks, you will be asked about how you like your meat, rare, medium, medium rare or well done; if I'm not mistaken. Lastly the prices for these burgers are about 31 ringgits and 23 ringgits, respectively.

Other famous and tasty dishes in Chili’s that I have personally tried and enjoyed, include: The fajitas, which have so many options you can mix and choose one, two or even three sides. You can choose from Chicken, beef, lamb or prawn. I personally like the lamb and the chicken the most. Oh I almost forgot and the steaks. I am not a big steak lover but my family seemed to always enjoy southwestern grilled lamb and country fried steak. They cost about 40 and 50 ringgits respectively. Please do remember that these prices as usual are very approximate. I would consider the price of food, drinks (many of which are bottomless), tax and service about 50-60 ringgits per person but that is if you order a cheaper main course, in case of steaks it could become more expensive. Chili's is not very cheap; this classifies Chili’s as a mid-range restaurant. The staff is also friendly and their service is relatively fast. So if you had troubling figuring out what to order you can always ask for their help and they can make you familiar with some of Chili’s finest.

Cheers
