A detailed review of Pavilion's stores, restaurants and entertainment

Published by flag-ir Saba Jalali — 5 years ago

I've written about a lot of malls in Kuala Lumpur or rather a lot of famous malls in Kuala Lumpur and it was just about time I wrote an entry on the second most touristic and lively mall of Kuala Lumpur after Suria KLCC, that is nowhere but the Pavilion mall. Pavilion is alive as hell, there is no shortage of tourists or locals out there and the mall is always having some sort of festival. It is pretty much a happy mall, great hang out and even greater shopping spot.

Inside of the mall.

Pavilion, has been one of the most famous malls in Kuala Lumpur for as long as I remember, there is no way anyone would say like hey I went to pavilion but it was boring, it is never boring there; specially not around celebratory periods like Christmas, Chinese new year or Indian new year. Anyways Pavilion has about 550 outlets and shops, that is pretty much crazy, just let it sink in. what I really like about the outlets are that they range from super luxurious brands and more affordable brands. Before anything else let’s cover on how we can get to Pavilion. Also Pavilion is open every day of the week, from 10 AM until 10 PM.

The main entrance of Pavilion has the super tall lily fountain, which changes colours during the night and it is truly spectacular. It is also considered a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, you can toss a coin and make a wish, and the coins are later on collected and donated to a charity.

How to get there:

Being situated in Kuala Lumpur’s hottest touristic area means great accessibility. You can get there anytime, using any transport medium you want. I'm going to talk about each of them one by one. First of all you can take the pink buses from KLCC, right in front of KLCC there a bus stop and a lot of purple buses are waiting around, get on one of those, those are the free buses and their aim is to take tourists to different places. They pass by pavilion, so you can get off there.

Then there is the KLCC/Pavilion tunnel or basically a pedestrian walkway. This was only built like 2-3 years ago and since then it has become one of the most popular pathways in Kuala Lumpur. There is basically a couple of tunnels, linked to each other by a couple of bridges which create a cold and safe way for everyone that decides to walk from KLCC to Pavilion or vice versa. The bridge is a great way to get there, it doesn’t take more than a 15 minute walk, it is cold so you don’t have to deal with the unbearable heat outside, and it has guards and CCTV everywhere which makes it super safe at nights.

Then there is the monorail that doesn’t really have a Pavilion station, it has a station in Bukit Bintang, which is like a 5 minute walk to Pavilion. You can just get off the monorail and then walk for about 5 minutes in this lively street, see the vendors, the restaurants, the bars, the shops and then cross the street and walk into Pavilion. If you weren’t sure of the directions, just ask the people around.

Favorite outlets:

First let’s talk about the outlets and then we’ll get to the food and snack section, to be honest I'm kinda really hungry right now so I can’t talk about food at this very moment. My favorite shops might include a lot of the same shops as Suria KLCC so I’ll try to keep it short so it doesn’t get repetitive.

1) Diaso

There is this section in the Pavilion mall on the 6 th floor, called as the “Tokyo street” which is dedicated to Japanese products and Japanese restaurants, it even has a different design compared to the rest of the mall. It is a super cute section, most of the items although pricey are quite unique and trendy, so it is definitely worth checking it out. Now towards the end of this section, there is an outlet store, known as “Diaso”, which is a heaven for buying cheap stuff that come in handy in your home every day.

The Diaso entrance.

Well Diaso is an originally Japanese brand that has many branches in many countries including Malaysia. Diaso is cheap like really cheap, everything in the store is 5 ringgits, due to recent taxes it is now 5. 30 ringgits which is still pretty cheap. It also has everything you can imagine from toiletries, utensils, stationary, party decorations, make up, socks, hats and tools. There are probably a lot more stuff you just gotta see it for yourself. I find Diaso pretty useful, every time I need something and I can’t find it anywhere else, I know I can find it in Diaso. The Diaso in Pavilion is the second best one that I have been to; the Diaso in Sunway Pyramid is the best on in all of Kuala Lumpur. Do make sure to check this shop out.

2) Cotton on

Cotton on is one of my favourite affordable brands of all time. Everything about Cotton on is so classy and chic yet so simple and of course the prices also suit my preferences. Cotton on has amazing shoes, and they put all these unbelievable sales for them, I always end up buying way more than I need. I mean once they had sales like shoes and sandals all under 30 ringgits, I mean come on that is like 8-9 dollars a pair. Anyways whether it's tank tops, shorts, cardigans or ripped up jeans, you’ve got it all in cotton on, I checked the store and it is under renovation now, but I'm sure not for much longer. Oh also the sunglasses are super savvy and trendy too. The best outlet of Cotton on is in Avenue K, which is right in front of KLCC, but the Pavilion outlet is also pretty good. Don’t miss out on this outlet, specially because they have these amazing sales going on a lot of the times. Oh I almost forgot, the store is located on the 4 th floor of the mall.

3) Forever 21

Can’t believe I almost forgot about this. The Forever 21 is my absolute outlet in all of Pavilion. Forever 21 is a great brand to be honest and it doesn’t have that many shops in Malaysia, the Pavilion one is great as hell, it is such a well-lit and huge store, you could spend time there for hours. The items on sale, are always at the back and they are so good man, I honestly love Forever 21 when it's on sale. Apart from clothing, there are also shoes, make up accessories such as brushes, jewellery and headbands too. The swimming suits are also nice and quite sexy if I'm being honest. Midvalley also has a super good Forever 21 outlet, it is bigger in size but I like both of the outlets equally. Located on the fourth level of the mall, the entrance is big enough to catch your attention.

4) M. A. C cosmetics

My absolute favourite store on earth, M. A. C has a branch in almost all of Kuala Lumpur’s swell known malls; the one in Pavilion is no different from the others. But there is this thing about it, every time I go to an outlet and they are out of stock for the product I want, they tell me to check out their Pavilion store, as if the Pavilion one would have it, and they do, every time I go there I can find whatever I need. This store is located on the third floor of the shopping mall.

5) Swarovski

I don’t really spend money on jewellery to be honest, I don’t even put on any type of jewellery, but Swarovski good to resist, their Pavilion branch always has the hottest items and sales, their store is relatively big and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I just go there a lot of times, even when I don’t want to buy anything, and the staff is always super friendly.

Okay now let’s get to food and then entertainment, Pavilion is no Berjaya Times Square in terms of entertainment but well food wise it is a heaven of sorts. I’m going to talk about a few of my favourite places to eat in Pavilion but do remember the choices are endless, really endless.

Carl’s Jr:

I love Carl’s Jr, I’m a huge burger fan, so I definitely do try every burger joint there is everywhere I go. The Carl’s Jr in Pavilion is located on the lower ground floor, in the food court level; there is this pathway that you need to take to reach there, and Carl’s Jr, Nandos and KFC are right next to each other. A few reasons as to why, I love this place so much is that, first of all it is spacious as hell, the place is well lit, I really like the seating area, they are comfortable and spacious. We always used to go there as a group and hang out for a long time while enjoying some good food. Carl’s Jr doesn’t have any branches in KLCC, but it does have one in One Utama, Sunway Pyramid, Midvalley and mines.

Another why reason why I love it is the bottomless drinks, you get your cup, you pour yourself any drink that you want as much as you want, plus the ice lemon tea in there tastes amazing, like so good that I actually miss it now.

Their prices and the size of the burgers are also just and good enough. Their burgers range from 14 ringgits to 25 ringgits which is a pretty good price and their sizes are way bigger than McDonald's. Do check this place out if you felt like having fast food.

Pavilion food court:

The Pavilion food court located on the lower ground floor of the mall which has the name of Food republic, the diversity of the food there is astounding; Luther is a food stall for all of Malaysia’s local foods. There are different foods from different states in Malaysia, I really like the Penang food stall, which is somewhere in the middle of the food court. There are reasonably priced Korean, Japanese and Thai food and of course let’s not forget western cuisine, I have tried that stall a lot and it is quite good to be honest, specially the pastas. I really do suggest checking this place out, because well it has so many choices and it is rather appealing to tourists. Alongside of the food court there are also restaurants like Tony Romas, Manhattan fish market and a few sushi places.

Entertainment

Well like I said before Pavilion doesn’t over much in terms of entertainment, but I mean it is located in one of the hottest and liveliest areas in Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by an endless number of bars and restaurants, it doesn’t need more entertainment options. But anyhow the Pavilion golden screen cinemas, are one of my favourite cinemas in all of Kuala Lumpur, their movies are always updated, the cinema halls aren’t too cold, the tickets are fair, it is generally a good place to watch a movie.

GSC cinema.

There is also the Red box there, which is a karaoke place, right next to the cinemas, both of which are located on the fifth floor of the mall, there is also student promotion, so if you are a student in Malaysia, good for you. The place is chic and fancy, the sound system and the service are good. The rates are a little bit expensive but hey if you like karaoke it's quite worth it. Oh almost forgot the food buffet is quite nice, sometimes in some of the branches you will be charged regardless if you used the buffet or not, so make sure you clear that up.

I wanted this to be a short review of Pavilion but oh well, it turned out way longer than I expected, I do hope you guys enjoy it nonetheless.
