One of the most beautiful palace complexes in Europe is undoubtedly Park Sansoucci, the former home of the most famous of all German kings. In every corner, the grandeur of imperial Prussia can be felt, reflecting the achievements of Frederick the Great and of later monarchs who continued to expand the complex. Many different styles and themes can be found in this heavenly park.
Park Sanssouci is located in Potsdam, and includes various constructions which reference other cultures, such as the Chinese Pavilion and the Temple of Friendship. All these contribute to turning a walk through the park into an immersing and intriguing experience.
The park has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990, and one of its palaces is currently undergoing maintenance works - a fact which does not however detract from its grandness.
Potsdam is situated just outside of Berlin, and it´s worth putting a whole day aside to include it in your list of must-see places. There is an entrance fee for the buildings, but visiting the park is free. The best time to visit is in the summer or at the end of springtime, since in winter many of the statues are covered to protect them from harsh weather and several of the buildings and palaces are closed to the public.
