A’ Tarantella

During these previous months I have observed that for Spanish people having dinner is more than simple eating: it is a social act, a way of having a fun, a way of building social network. In the evening (around 9-10 o’clock – that a Hungarian would probably consider very late), all the tapas bars get filled with people, you can barely find places to sit down and you cannot hear your own voice because everyone wants to share what happened to them in the past few days at the very same moment. As if this was the time to wake up from the siesta. I think we can say that eating out is an integral part of the Spanish culture.

Knowing this, it is not surprising that every second place in Salamanca is a tapas bar or a restaurant. However, it is very difficult to decide where to go when we have such an abundance of choices, so we (my boyfriend and I) usually end up returning to the places we have tried out before.

Therefore, I have decided that I am going to do a series of posts about my favourite places in Salamanca, introducing them one by one.

Today I’m bringing you information about an Italian restaurant called A’ Tarantella. Maybe it would be more proper to start with a Spanish tapas bar, but this was the place we visited yesterday and I took some nice photos that I really wanted to upload.

Where can you find it in Salamanca?

It is located in the heart of the city centre, a 1-minute walk away from the Plaza Mayor. And here is the address: Plaza del Mercado, 14, 37001, Salamanca.

The place

A’ Tarantella is a cozy place, not big at all, but has a friendly atmosphere and that is exactly what we need. It is also an advantage that the staff can already recognize us, and I am quite sure that they can guess what we are going to order as well, which are usually Bruschetta for a starter and Margherita pizza for the main course, with wine or drinks.

The menu

There is a large selection of different types of pizzas, pastas and even the lasagne is prepared in 5-6 different ways (as far as I remember there is the original version with Bolognese sauce, vegetarian, four cheese, ect. ). Additionally, the quality is high and everything is delicious. I wanted to enclose a link of the menu, but I could not find it on their website. The prices

Unfortunately, I cannot provide much information regarding this question, because we usually pay the same amount of money due to the fact that we order kind of the same things. But to give you an example, yesterday we payed 12 € for a Margherita pizza and two drinks, and the starter, which was already on our table, came for free! Otherwise starters are around 2-4 €. I can also recall the price of the lasagne: the original one is around 10 €. So based on these examples, I believe that A’Tarantella neither belongs to the very cheap category, nor to the very expensive one. I would say that the prices are normal and in accordance with the quality of the restaurant.

All in all, I would recommend this place to all those who love the Italian cuisine and do not mind paying a little bit more for good quality and delicious food. I would also advice it for couples who would like to have a quiet evening.
