One of the best restaurants in Vilanova i la Geltrù, it boasts a very good reputation, earned during a few decades of top quality food service, which make it really popular among the Vilanovins. And after trying its delicious dishes in more than one occasion, I shall say that such a reputation is really well deserved.
Like most of the best restaurants in Vilanova i la Geltrù, El Giraldillo is not located on the Rambla Principal, but rather a few hundreds of metres far from it. As you will easily guess from the name, the family who originally owned the place was from Andalucia (Giralda is the name of a spectacular tower which is the most representative monument of Sevilla). Anyway, El Giraldillo is nowadays a local of reference as far as tapas are concerned, though it also offers excellent complete menus.
As for my personal experience, I opted for this "inn" (which is the actual meaning of the word "mesòn") for my first dinner out with my girlfriend, who was visiting me in Vilanova i la Geltrù. Following the precious pieces of advice of a friend of mine, we ordered two combined dishes, called "Todoterreno" and "Huevos 3P". They consisted respectively in a wonderful combination of mushrooms, prawns, patatas bravas and squids (the products representing the different origins evoked in the name of the dish), and in a delicious portion of scrambled eggs accompanied by patatas bravas, green peppers and... (actually I cannot remember what the third P stands for, I just have memories of a mouth-watering dish). Moreover, the portions were really abundant and the price not expensive at all, as we were finally charged 12 Euros apiece.
Fortunately enough, I also had another chance of tasting the delicious cuisine of this fantastic restaurant. This time, though, instead of opting for a tapas-based menu, I preferred a complete lunch. Having chosen therefore the menu of the day, I was served a top quality fideua, followed by a good portion of roasted chicken with vegetables. Probably you will not believe it but... the 11-Euros menu also included the drink and the dessert! And what a dessert it was... an incredible flan which was almost as tasty as it was pleasant to see (and, as you have the chance to see from the picture, it was really wonderful! ).
Though I have not mentioned it, basically because I am not exactly keen on fish, the fish-based dishes are one of the strong points of the restaurant, also due to the fact that only fresh fish is used to prepare them. As a conclusion, then, I would definitely recommend El Giraldillo to anybody who may happen to be in Vilanova i la Geltrù. Just one important recommendation: as the place is normally really crowded, both at lunch and dinner time, it would be a good idea to make a reservation or to go there quite early, before the usual Spanish time for meals (namely, before 1. 30 p. m. for lunch or before 8 o'clock for dinner). Otherwise, even finding a single table for two people may be difficult!
