Choc-Chip Cookies

These typical American choc-chip cookies are really easy to make and still absolutely delicious. They're great for when you have someone coming to visit, or you can even take a few of them to uni and have them between lectures to help with your attempts to become an Erasmus superstudent.

Anyone can make them, even if you don't know anything about cooking, or even if you are a boy; given so little of you enjoy baking, but enjoy everything else (I have to admit that I'm a girl and even I don't like baking that much, probably because I don't really like sweet things or chocolate etc. but bit by bit I've grown to like it).

Anyway, here it goes...

Ingredients

  • 100g of butter/margarine, or a vegan substitute.
  • 100g of sugar.
  • 150g of baking flour.
  • Chocolate Chips: they sell the perfect kind in El Mercadon, they're called 'chocolate tears' or something like that. Their actual chocolate chips aren't that great as they melt almost too much and don't have the same consistency.

You could also add a little vanilla extract or even some cinnamon. I don't personally like the cinnamon, but as many people are absolutely mad for the stuff I thought I'd mention it, it's an aphrodisiac too, haha.

Method

  1. Pre heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place a baking tray, covered with grease proof paper inside.

  3. In a bowl, mix together the butter, margarine or vegan substitute and the sugar until you get a smooth and fluffy mixture, without any lumps. If you want to use vanilla extract or cinnamon, now's the time to put it in.

  5. Afterwards, add as many chocolate chips as you would like (without going overboard) and half of the flour. Mix it all together well then add the other half and mix it once again.

  6. Roll the mix in to little balls and place them on the tray, bearing in mind that these balls will rise and get bigger (it's not going to be a cake, but these cookies turn out to be more like little planets) so make sure you leave a fair amount of space between them. If you can't fit them all on one tray, don't worry, just do two batches.

  8. Leave them on the middle shelf in the oven for about 12 minutes, or until slightly golden.

  10. When you take them out they have to be slightly soft still as when you leave them to cool they will harden up to the right cookie consistency. If you leave them in the oven to do this, you'll end up with some rock-hard cookies, maybe even slightly burnt ones at that.
  11. When you take them out, let them cool by placing them on cooling rack.

Finally

Once they have all cooled down, they are ready to eat!

They are quick and easy to make, and perhaps more importantly, cheap too! :D
