Well, if you are from the North, like me, you will find Spain is a damn cheap place to eat. You'd easily find tapas and cheap drinks everywhere. However, La Gitana Loca is a place where tapas are sold at 1 - 4 euros and alcohol from 0. 5 euros. I do not have much money for eating out, but La Gitana Loca would always be my first choice when I would love a full board with a salad, a tapas and a drink, all for less than 5 euros. Sound nice, huh?
La Gitana Loca is located on Cuesta del Rosario, Sevilla, on the way to Alfafa from the center. It is catchy to your eyes with dotted colorful panel. You can make a choice to sit inside or outside. In the summer, it is better to stay out because the heat inside will melt you away before you enjoy your cool beer. At night, this place is really really crowded so you'd better come and steal a seat before 10 p. m.
Basically, Gitana Loca offers you a wide range of food, including salad, hot tapas, cold tapas, chicken wings, hamburger and sandwiches (montaditos) with very reasonable price. Here is the menu for you to take a look:
Most of the dishes are less than 3 euro and drinks are less than 2 euros. I have not tried that many dishes, but there is one I always call for whenever dropping by: Alitas de Pollo (chicken wings). It costs 1 euros and it tastes much more than that. The chicken wings are hot, crunchy and very well-seasoned. But one funny thing: don't know why my Western friends are so indifferent about them while all of my Asian buddies are crazy for it. It is likely due to the way they season the wings -more oriental. You can go there, give it a try and tell me, I would appreciate it a lot!
Damned, I wish I had a better camera! The chicken wings look way more appealing than it was in this photo.
My friend ordered something I don't remember.
Patatas con salsa brava (Potatos in Brava Sauce) is damn huge and it costs 1. 5 EUR. Surprising?
The ox tail tapas is also very popular here. It tastes rather good, but a bit oily for me.
For the drink, it costs you 0. 5 euros for a small beer and 1 euro for big one, I suppose that it is the cheapest you can find in town. I love "clara" - beer and lemon - and it is quite easy to drink (but also cheesy lol). Those are some photos about the food, I have tried some salad as well and they were all nice (all for 1 - 1. 5 euros).
Here are some evaluation:
Plus point:
- Money value. C'mon, you pay less than 5 eur and get a full meal. All are tasty. What more can I ask for?
- Service: the waiters there are nice and humorous. I tried to order in Spanish and they always encourage it.
Minus point (hate to admit it, but yes, there are some bad things)
- Sometimes the place becomes over crowded and you have to wait so long to order, pay and get food AND the floor becomes very dirty
- The chef is quite moody. Sometimes I got 4 chicken wings on my place plus a lot of chips, sometimes there are only 3 and that's it
- As they do not have a speaker for calling your name, sometimes it is difficult like hell to realize they are calling you to get the food, especially you are sitting outside
- The kitchen is closed sometimes. During that times, you are able to order only salad or cold tapas. But the closing time is unpredictable, or I did not get it, yet.
Even there are many minus points for my favorite spot downtown, I still recommend it though. Unlike other many places, here come a lot of Spanish people, and I really love the local atmosphere!
