The craft beer festival, Mariachela, takes place once a year in the city of Querétaro, normally around the month of May.
Where does it take place?
Mariachela Festival takes place at Club de Golf Balvanera, located on the highway in the direction of Celaya. To get there, take the aforementioned highway and follow it for around 10 kilometres. It's honestly quite difficult to get there if you aren't travelling by car.
How much does entry cost?
Entry to the festival costs $100 Mexican pesos per person, which includes a half pint of beer upon entry, in addition to access to the event itself.
What is there at this festival?
The event has a food area, where they sell crepes, skirt steak, burgers and desserts, with the aim of satisfying all tastes. There is an endless number of food trucks on site.
There are no chairs available to sit on at this event, so you should think about wearing comfortable clothing and be willing to sit on the grass, although it's not at all uncomfortable to do so. The bathrooms are actually temporary portable toilets (portaloos, in other words), so you might also want to think about bringing your own toilet paper with you.
This event brings lots of businessmen together, particularly the owners of Mexican craft breweries; some of the companies trading here have won several awards. The festival serves as a great opportunity to try both Mexican and some more unconventional beers: Pale Ale, Indian Ale, Brown Ale, Stout, Porter... there is something for everyone. You can buy the beer in a variety of measures, be that a sample size (30ml), a half pint, or a full pint. You should also consider taking cash with you, as the majority of the vendors don't accept credit card payments (around $500 Mexican pesos per person should cover it). The stands are designed in a really original and ecological way, representative of their respective brand.
Once everyone has bought and tried the different beers, there is a large grassy area where most people usually sit down and enjoy some stand-up organised either by Comedy Central or by those you see in STANDparados. There are several giant beer pong games, which makes it ideal for spending a really nice afternoon with friends, your partner, or family. It's recommendable to arrive earlier rather than later in order to find a good parking space and avoid standing in long lines for the food stalls.
