How to make a delicious three milk cake
There is nothing better after a meal than endulging oneself with a yummy dessert; that is why on this blog I will show you how to make a delicuous three milk cake, explaining the process step by step and how to obtain the ingredients for it, you will not have any problem making it, no matter where you are.
The following recipe is for 5 or 6 portions depending on the quantity of milk used, you can increase the number of portions.
Ingredients
We should have the following ingredients:
-
1 cream 295 grams
-
1 condensed milk 400 grams
-
1-2 liters of milk
-
1 box of cornflour (6 spoons per liter, 90 grams approximately)
-
250 grams of sugar
-
1 icopor foodholder for each portion
-
1 block of ducal biscuits
-
3 spoons of vainilla essence
How to cook them
Before we begin I want to clarify what some of the ingredients are, because it is likely that for people who are not from Colombia or other latin countries where it is possible to find these ingredients, will find it hard to find them by the same name.
In first place, la Maizena or maicena or however you prefer to call it; is what we know as cornflour. However, this can be also known as cornstarch. If you cannot find this ingredient in the supermarket, I recommend that you visit a shop that sells pastry products.
Continuing with the block of ducal biscuits, this is a type of soda biscuit, although sweeter and made by a colombian company called Noel, and for this reason very difficul to find in other countries. As I already said they are very like soda biscuits (just a little bit sweeter) but any similar biscuit would do and the word block is just making reference to the presentation of the biscuits.
Vainilla essence can sound strange even for people that are not from the colombian caribbean coast, as its a term that is commonly used in the region and makes reference to vanilla extract. This vanilla extract is often used in food and drink to give a hint of vanilla taste and therefore quite easy to find.
Regarding the quantities of condensed milk and cream, there is the possibility you might not find packaging with the exact quantities, which does not matter as long as you have the quantities that are required for the recipe.
Once we have all the ingredients or their corresponding equivalents we will proceed to the preparation of the dessert. The instructions are the following:
-
Boil the liter of milk in a large pot.
-
Once boiled, separate ½ a liter and let it cool.
-
The other half a liter must be left in the stove at a low heat while we prepare the other liter of milk.
-
Once the other half a liter of milk is cool, we put it in the blender and we add the following:
- - The spoons of cornstarch
- - The cream
- - The condensed milk
-
Mix it until it is all blended uniformely.
-
Afterwards we may pour bit by bit (as to not create lumps) the liquified milk with the rest of ingredients into the milk that is in the stove.
-
We stir with a spatula or spoon.
-
While we stir we add the sugar and vanilla essence.
-
If you want, when the whole thing cools you can pour chocolate sprinkles or raisins or anything else that you think will make a good combination.
-
Lastly, we place all the cups in the refrigerator and wait a few hours to enjoy this delicious dessert.
Keep stirring until it is ready, this is not easy to know, specially if it is your first time doing this dessert. So I will tell you the same thing my mother said when I asked her, it is the moment when the mix is dense enough that you can see the bottom. So when it's dense enough you know it is ready.
Once you consider the mix is dense enough you take it off the stove.
In order to serve it, take the cups and place a layer of the mix, followed by a layer of the biscuits you have chosen and on top of that another coat of cream.
Cost of preparation:
Now we will make a summary of the cost of making this yummy dessert looking at the average price of the ingredients in the supermarkets in Colombia and their correspondent equivalent in euros.
-
The 295 grams of cream has a cost of 67000 pesos colombianos (which is a bit less than 2 euro)
-
The 90m grams box of cornflour cost 1750 pesos which is 50 cents in euros.
-
400 grams of condensed milk costs 7100 pesos which basically amounts to 2 euros.
-
A litre of milk costs approximately 3000 pesos, that is 85 euro cents.
-
The block of ducal biscuits is about 2000 pesos which is equivalent to 60 cents in euros, approximately.
-
The icopor food-holders and the vanilla essence can be found separately in little neighborhood shops, the cost of the food-holders would be of 200 pesos (6 cents in euro approximately) the total being 1200 pesos (0, 35) the total of 6 and the vanilla essence is 500 pesos (15 cents in euro).
Doing the sum of the cost of all the ingredients we have a maximum expenditure (the ciphers being rounded up) of 23 thousand pesos colombianos which in euros would be 6, 5 euros. If you think about it, it is quite an economical price for enjoying this delicious dessert in the company of our loved ones. Many students from diverse institutions such as the UTB (Mi experiencia en la UTB) help themselves by making and selling this delicious three milk cake, as it is profitable, easy to make and there is no need for specialised items.
