Travelling to Warsaw

Published by flag- Denys Momot — 6 years ago

As I wrote before, I reside in Warsaw, because of study and work there. Not to get bored of routine I occasionally travel around with my friends. Obviously you know that Warsaw is the capital and the largest city by population of Poland. Apparently, there are lots of things to do and many places to see. The most spectacular is Royal Castle. It is in the middle of the old town. I spent Christmas Eve in that area with my friends in 2014.

Wilanow Palace

Now, I would like to tell you where you should go to enjoy your time. Apart from the old town and Royal Castle, there are many things to go. For instance, "Wilanow Palace", which was built in a perfect Baroque architecture style. The palace was designed specifically for the king John III Sobieski and later he gifted it to his sons in the 17th century. The Palace had been changing owners quite long time. However, it serves as a museum in Wilanow district, now. And it is a national historic monument. The place itself is very big. Many tourists from all over the world arrive to visit this spectacular place and enjoy the surroundings of it.

Palace of Culture and Science

Another interesting place is a downtown of Warsaw. It is a commercial place for shopaholics. Tourists from Eastern Europe leave their countries to buy something during discount season. Usually all possible discounts go during winter holidays. There is sightseeing, too. The greatest is Palace of Culture and Science which was buit in Stalinist architecture style. In fact, it has socialistic architecture style. Although it is interesting to know that Palace of Culture and Science was built during Soviet regime in Poland under the government of Joseph Stalin and it used to be as a political place for meetings, everything has changed. Nowadays, there are Collegium Civitas, cinemas, theatres, sport clubs and many other social organizations. Likewise, there are many giant hotels in downtown of Warsaw. You may see the Marriot, Intercontinental, Novotel and Polonia Palace Hotel. In addition you will see Hard Rock Cafe. In conclusion, it will not be boring place where to be.

The last place that I really liked was "Lazienki Park". It was designed in the same style as "Wilanow Palace" but ten times bigger. Furthermore, it was built in 17 century. Basically, there is everything just after the main entrance: you will notice the monument of Polish musician Fryderyk Chopin. Moreover, there is monument to the famous king John III Sobieski. In several parts of the park I noticed Roman architecture and there are many nice green lawns. Likewise, I felt that it might be an English style of the garden there. The astonishing thing is some one-store Chinese house. And the most attractive sightseeing is New Orangerie with a restaurant inside.

All in all, I like Warsaw very much. There are so many things to do. I even could not see all places, so far. Even though, it is a post-communistic city but it is definitely worth to see. In fact, people are quite open-minded and free in Warsaw.
