Le Public House - The small French melting pot

Published by flag-sk Dominika Fonyi — 6 years ago

This bar was suggested to us by another Erasmus student, who described it as "...a lively place with plenty of students and great beer". As soon as I walked in, I realized how much I underestimated the words "plenty"and "great".

This place was crowded. You could instantly hear that this place is the small melting pot of Strasbourg: a myriad of languages spoken, mixed together in a loud cacophony of words. So, if you are a small group of friends who'd rather enjoy a quiet chat with a glass of wine, enjoying the silence of the night, you'd better choose a different place for your stay. However, if you are like me and prefer a more lively and convivial bar, where you can meet folks from different corners of the world, then this place is for you!

Luckily enough, there was one single table left, so we sat and waited for the waiter to come. We had to wait around 10 minutes for the waiter to bring the menu, but I don't blame them -- they trulywerebusy, so if you come here, expect to be waiting a little longer for the service than in other bars.

If you're a beer-enthusiast and like trying out new stuff, you'll LOVE this place. Seven types of all-time favourites included in menu, but they also have several more "special" brews - just ask the staff! They're offer also included the Belgian beer Kastel Rouge, which is a cherry-flavoured brown beer and I definitely recommend it!

As to the prices, the beers are a bit more expensive than in most countries, around 3 - 3.50 € for a small beer, 6 - 6.50 € for a large beer, but these prices are normal for Strasbourg.

The menu also included Pizza and Burgers, which I didn't try unfortunately, but the prices for Pizza were in the range o 8 - 12 € for classical pizza size, which is cheaper than in the city center.

To sum up, I definitely recommend you to visit this place, the prices in the normal Strasbourg range, but if you desire something more sophisticated and intimate, you should probably try a different bar.
