Jardim Botânico - Botanic Garden

Published by Mafalda J. Barata — 9 years ago

In the middle of the city you will find the gates of Jardim Botânico, built for the Coimbra University but open for general public.

It’s 13 hectares big and contains a huge diversity of protected plant species, nice, quiet places to explore, departments for educational and investigational purpose and a great amount of history around it to discover.

You don’t need to pay for the entrance, but a lot of great places there have a fee of 2€ - 4€.

Personally, I think it’s an amazing place for picnics, walks and photography. Just don’t pick many plants from there, it’s forbidden!

Study the green

Located right next to the University of Coimbra, the Bothanic Gardens preserves most plant species studied by the Portuguese people in the last five centuries. There, you'll find trees from all the ex-colonies and from all Portugal.

It's a great place for enjoying the outside during the summer, when it's really hot in Coimbra. Also, many activities take place there, such as Yoga classes on Wednesday, photography expositions and academic events.
