Why I love to cook

In this article I would like to share with you something about my passion, it is more than a hobby and less than something professional. It is about cooking. This activity makes me feel very comfortable in the beginning and very thankful after enjoying and tasting all that I cooked for myself, for my family or my friends. Surely food is something very special and important for you, isn't it? So, let's give you an introduction and after I will share some stories and what I am going to share with you in this blog that I called “Discover my passion for cooking”. I can give you more than 5 reasons of why I love to cook but I'm not going to do that because I would like to share with you a passion and to share some tips, good and effective methods with which you can make delicious and tasty food for you and your friends.

So, I started to cook from 16 years old, at first I did this as an obligation and a necessity of survival. But, after a while something wonderful happened. I started to love to cook. I started to enjoy everytime when I had to cook at least for myself. And after a long time of obligation for cooking I discovered my passion for preparing some delicious food, tapas, cheesecakes, cakes, juice, smoothies, kompot. I started to share what I cooked with my friends and I was proud of it! I attended not only once in events where we have promoted our country, traditions, customs and traditional food and I was proud of it! Because I represented my country, my traditions and traditional food in a very simple but tasty way.

After awhile I moved in a apartment and I had three girls as roommates, sounds really good and I am assuring you that this was a very wonderful experiences during my high school studies. So, we decided to cook for each other every single day, sometimes we did some exceptions and we went outside to eat and try something local, I mean food, beer or wine :D During my high school studies I had a great experience in the kitchen and not only. I tried a lot of things in the kitchen just to be sure that I can cook everything. I improvised a lot when I had to cook, I search on the internet for new and new recipes, I called a lot my mom to ask for traditional recipes because I missed my mother's food. In this way I improved my cooker skills and nowadays I can cook almost everything for myself, my family, my friends and so on. I share my food with everyone :D Especially I like to share my food with travelers because they are hungry after one day of traveling around. I host a lot of people from "Couchsurfing Community" and sometimes we cook together because in this way I learn something new about other cultures.

Why I love to cook

A very nice experience happened to me when I moved to Timisoara to study computer science and I stayed with my cousin. Why this experience was nice? Guess! My cousin also likes to cook and improvise a lot in the kitchen with a lot of ingredients and spice stuff. So, it is clear that we started to cook a lot together and share things that we know, tips that we use and how we can cook a good meal with little money. We were student and for us a bit more money meant a lot, but it was not a problem because we were very creative by improvising a meal with all that we had in the house at that moment. To be honest with you we used all we had at home because we were a bit lazy and we did not want to go to shopping :D This happened a few times.

To be honest with you I like to eat something with a very good taste, if the food doesn't have a good taste I can't eat, I can't finish what I have in my plate I only eat if I die of hunger. And to make the food delicious I use dry and natural spices, I make natural sauces for all my food and I use fresh and healthy ingredients. Nowadays, I do not eat a lot of meat because I do not feel like to eat meat but when my organism ask me for a bit of meat I cook something with meat. Usually I eat chicken meat and pork. I love fish and here in Portugal they have a lot of traditional food with fish and this makes me very happy. And fish with vegetables are simply amazing! You agree with me?

So, what I eat usually? I use to cook almost everyday vegetables, a lot of vegetables because I like the taste and is very simple to cook, it takes not as long as meat, it is cheap and the taste is amazing! Also, I cook for myself and my flatmates, they are also EVS volunteers here in Portugal, a cake or cheesecake or something sweet per week. Sometimes I like to eat fresh soup or cold cucumber soup with yogurt, mmm, if you did not tried yet you definitely shoud try cold cucumber soup with yogurt. Everyweek I cook something with fish, I use different types of fish and I cook fish with vegetables, rice, popatoes in oven or on stove. It depends. Depends on what I have and what I want to eat. And sometimes I cook with meat because my body ask me of a little bit of meat with a sauce and something delicious.

A very important thing is when you realize that cooking time is not something very boring, when you feel yourself very comfortable in the kitchen, when you could stay in the kitchen for hours and you do not feel tired or something. We something like this happens to you this means you have a passion and this passion is create art in the kitchen. And when I say art it really means art because after a while you starting to arrange all your plates and all just to be sure that everything is looking good. Even sometimes I eat alone I arrange my plate because I would like to see a nice plate with a tasty food in front of me. Just imagine, a really good looking plate with a glass of wine (for example a plate with fish, rice and green wine - vinho verde ). Mmm, delicious!
