Easy 'Cretan Dakos' salad

Salad is a very common type of food in Mediterranean cuisine. The vegetables are delicious and when the weather gets warm, they usually replace the ''unhealthy meals of winter''.

So, also in Greece, salads are part of the every day diet. One of the most famous salads comes from the bigggest greek island, Crete, and is called ''Cretan Dakos''.

The preparation is very easy so you will need just 5-10 minutes to taste this amazing salad.

Let's see the recipe:

Ingredients (for an individual portion):

  • 1 big piece of dako ( barley roll ). You can find it at the supermarkets, on the shelf with rusks, with the name ''κριθαροκούλουρο''.

  • 1 big tomato.

  • 3-4 olives.

  • some olive oil.

  • oregano.

  • a piece of feta cheese or another type of greek cheese called " xinomizithra''.

Preparation:

  1. Take a deep plate or a bowl.

  2. Take the piece of dako, wet it a little so it becomes not so dry, and put it on the plate.

  3. Take the tomato and cut it in half.

  4. Cut the one half of the tomato into small cubes.

  5. Grate the other half and spill it over the dako.

  6. Cut the piece of the cheese with your hand (because it is soft ) and place it over the dako.

  7. Put the olives.

  8. Place the tomatoes that you cut into cubes.

  9. Sprinkle with some olive oil and put as much oregano as you want.

Enjoy your delicious salad!
