Whoever is visiting Aveiro has to know that there are two things that you need to eat while you're there.

  1. Soft eggs (made from egg-yoke and sugar)
  2. Tripas

Those that are not from Aveiro may think that "tripas" are the entrails of some animals (tripe), but they're far from it.

They're only one of the best desserts/sweets/snacks from Aveiro.

This is an Aveiro tripe:

(Sorry, the photo is a bit blurry. I was in a big hurry to eat)

T0 is considered the best place in Aveiro to eat tripas.

The name is rather ironic because it's actually quite a small place. But it seats many people. Sometimes it's difficult to get a table. Maybe that also helps to make it more desirable.

As you can see in the image the space isn't very big, whereas the kindness of the waiters taking leftovers towards the clients is huge. Up until now, I've always been welcomed nicely.

Going back to the tripas... There are sweet and salty ones.

Sweet:

  • With jam:
    • Strawberry jam
    • Red fruit jam
    • Blueberry jam
  • With chocolate:
    • Milk chocolate
    • Dark chocolate
    • White chocolate
    • Hazelnut chocolate

T0

  • With the chocolate brands:
    • Normal Milka, Oreo Milka, strawberry Milka, caramel Milka...
    • Normal M&Ms, milk M&Ms
    • Bounty
    • Kitkat
    • Kinder Bueno, Kinder Delice
    • Mars
    • Snickers
    • Nutella
    • Maltesers
  • With soft eggs:
    • The same filling as in soft-eggs (egg-yolk and sugar), is really good in tripas.

Savoury:

  • Cheese
  • Ham
  • Cheese and ham
  • Chocolate and cheese

Fruit:

  • Strawberries
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries

You can also get ice-cream and fruit all mixed together. You can ask for it if you'd like it.

T0 also sells things other than tripas. It has the typical coffee sweets, ice-creams and chocolates, fizzy drinks, still drinks, etc.

It also is great for it's originality in decoration. It's incredible that they can make such a welcoming and original place out of such a small space.

More particularly the women's bathroom (I've never seen the men's) with such amusing tiles.

Prices:

This place is slightly more expensive that the other cafés, kiosques, stalls etc. because, in my opinion, quality is more expensive here. The many clients prove that paying a bit more is worth it.

In the majority of other places tripes with filling cost about €2. 50 to €3.

Here in T0 it's about €3 to €4. 50 depending on the filling. Obviously, a tripa with branded chocolate costs maybe €3 and one with ice-cream and/or fruit is more expensive.

There are also different prices for a takeaway tripa and one to eat in. It's understandable that this happens since there isn't much space.

T0

Conclusion:

You can eat a perfectly good tripa anywhere in the city, but if you want to have a real tripa, have good service and visit a really cute place, go to T0. Or you can always try several different tripas.
