Discovering the Fallas
On a rainy Thursday during the month of March, it was time to go to the most famous festival of Valencia: 'las Fallas'! We quickly realised the scale of the event which was yet to be known to us on this day: the sounds of fireworks, the streets jam-packed with people and these 'fallas'; from the smallest to the biggest. Each one was special, from the Virgin Mary to the cartoon princesses. They were characterised by their style, their statement, their criticism and their humour... In my eyes, the most noteworthy was that of cinema, due to its grandeur and precision of characters.
However, the most striking of them had to stay well throughout the deafening noise from the firecrackers. While we were still on the bus, the organisers advised us to open our months to breathe, making the noise less unbearable. Although we weren't especially close to the aforementioned place surrounded by thousands of people, it reached the ears of every one of us, making the children cry. Even the scooters whose alarms were sounding couldn't bear it.
The night fell. The majestic illuminations took the reigns. Throughout the entire journey, these blinding lights surrounded us. Merchants were on the edges, trying to sell us their food and every kind of gadget. Therefore, we were able to try the famous alcoholic drink 'Agua de Valencia', based on cava, orange juice, vodka and gin, accompanied by tapas from the region - Nothing better anyway than finishing off the walk on this note! Then at 10PM the combustion of the 'fallas' to conclude on the symbol of 2015 - the imposing lion resting his paw on a globe. While it was cool, the heat quickly came to us from the other end of the place. 1AM having passed, this day of discovery came to an end. The city of Valencia invests its time and money every year in order to make this festival exceptional - a successful gamble!
