Today, in Hanoi, the weather is hot, because of the hotness I immediately think of ice cream. To tell the truth, in tropical countries like Vietnam, ice cream is indispensable. I love to eat ice cream, I remember visiting Italy, in every city I went, I got a Gelato for myself, although I have to say that I am a cost-effective student traveller, but in Italy I was very generous to myself when it came to food.

More than that, today after more than a month back from Europe, I again remember the gelato flavour, I remember the gelato has a sweet and soft texture characteristic, as soon as I put the ice cream into my mouth I can feel it's softness as thin as the gel, distinct from the solid and hard texture of the regular cream: when poured into the mouth, Gelato immediately melts, which it has always been described as soft ice cream.
- I miss Gelato
When I ate gelato, I did not get the cold feeling of ice cream, instead it warmed up and melted. I remember my Italian friend Gianluca saying that there are Italian people who do not agree with calling Gelato as ice cream, because it does not contain water, so it is not frozen and doesn't have ice. Actually, I was not surprised because the ice cream in cold countries, like some in Europe, must be something different to cream in hot countries like Vietnam. With this feature, Gelato is good for winter and for people who love ice cream that are afraid of gaining weight.
However today I will not tell you about gelato cream that I will mention on another occasion, today I will talk about ice cream; Trang Tien ice cream, which is a famous ice cream brand of Vietnam. In the early twenties we were always hungry for ice cream in Trang Tien Street. The only ice cream shop was in Hanoi at that time.
- Trang Tien Ice Cream - First Ice Cream of Vietnam
Speaking of history, telling the truth before being colonised by the French colonialists, Vietnam was a poor, backward country like China with North Korea, and apparently on the list of Vietnamese dishes, I assure you that there is no such thing as ice cream. My fathers generation had to wait until the French arrived and they brought Western dishes like pate, bacon and finally ice cream that was available in Vietnam.

The first place to sell ice cream according to my grandfather's memory was at the Grand Hotel on Hang Trong Street, now Intimex Supermarket on Le Thai To Street. The hotel's bar staff puts ice cream in a wide-mouth glass cup, accompanied by a bronze spoon.
Then, there was a first ice cream shop opened by the Vietnamese at 37 Cau Go street named Zéphyr. However, the shop closed after 3 years.
It was not until Kem Trang Tien ( Trang Tien Ice Cream) was born that ice cream was introduced to the Vietnamese people, which is now an old ice cream brand. I had eaten Trang Tien ice cream for a long time, but now we have Gelato ice cream, Korean ice cream, many different types of ice cream at the supermarket.
I used to buy strawberry ice cream and canned chocolate in the supermarket, until I remembered the ice cream I used to have before: green pea ice cream.

My green peas ice cream is a Vietnamese special ice cream, because before the arrival of European ice cream, the Vietnamese also had some other delicious dishes, mainly made from green peas. I found that the combination of the delicious taste of green pea, the fatty taste of fresh milk and coconut milk has created attractive ice cream.
Trang Tien ice cream is not only a favorite product but also a unique culture associated with the memories of many people in Hanoi. Therefore, this brand is very easy to be copied. Protecting Trang Tien ice cream brand does not simply protect a brand but also protect a unique culture, delicate cuisine of the capital.
- Unique culture asssociated with ancient Ha Noi
Speaking of Hanoi specialties, rarely people do not mention Trang Tien ice cream. Trang Tien ice cream has long been imprinted in the heart of customers near and far by taste, attractive. For tourists to Hanoi, address 35 Trang Tien has long become an indispensable destination.

The company is now trademarked, in the past, it was just a store selling ice cream. The only one selling ice cream in Ha Noi before.
Fortunately for Hanoi, for our generation and nostalgic people, Trang Tien ice cream has been surviving for a long time.
At first I did not want to compare the sweetness of Trang Tien ice cream to another new cream imported into Hanoi. As an economics student, I want to point out the richness of the ice cream brand Trang Tien, I think up to today; more than 50 years of Trang Tien ice cream is enough to say it all.
Why, on the dense capital of Hanoi, where there are numerous ice cream shops, many people still have to stop by at Trang Tien for an ice cream?
The charm of ice cream is so real altogether! In times of thousands of sellers, hundreds of people buy, but people still have to queue to buy ice cream in Trang Tien Street. The joy of buying a cashew ice cream is amazing. So old life vitality still flowing in the U50 ice cream money!
- Trang Tien Ice Cream Company has spread its branches to the whole country.
Today, I can buy Trang Tien ice cream not only in Hanoi but also in other provinces in the country. But for anyone who wants to really enjoy themselves, they have to go to Trang Street for an ice cream.
To tell the truth, I found that ice cream in Trang Tien Street still has a special taste. The turmoil of Hanoi in the daytime on the streets seems to be integrated into the Trang Cash Shop. The sound of the motorbike, the noise of the people with a little scramble and Ha Noi people eating ice cream at night. Elderly men in front of the ice cream shop have a slight idea of who we are.
- Hanoi Fall with Trang Tien Ice Cream
When Hanoi night smells of milk flowers, I invite my friends to enjoy the right nourishing 50 year old Trang noodles and to have a look over the faces of Hanoians under street lights that are not too bright.
Maybe my heart will add a vibration before the happy, radiant eyes.
I will again be immersed in the space Hanoi old town with the smell of milk flowers. Your taste buds will indulge in the sweet, bittersweet taste.
Trang Tien ice cream has a simple charm but makes people remember it forever. Ice cream is not decorated in an eye-catching way with many new colours or new shapes but the ice cream flavour by itself is enough to conquer the taste of the most fastidious. Trang Tien ice cream has many kinds such as coconut milk cream, coconut cream, chocolate cream, cinnamon cream etc.
- Ice cream cinnamon with coconut milk
But today my favorite ice cream is ice cream cinnamon and coconut milk cream. Cream of cinnamon sticks smell of milk not sweet, but not boring either.
The sweetness of ice cream combined with the aroma and crunchiness of cinnamon is a perfect combination. Coconut milk cream is moderately sweet, hard and still ensures the plasticity, aroma and fatty smell of coconut fiber.
Price of ice cream is reasonable, only about 7, 000-8, 000 VND (0. 26-0. 30 Euros) per unit. Therefore, until now, Trang Tien ice cream is still very popular among students.
I hope that whenever visiting Ha Noi, you should visit this place for trying Vietnam –Trang Tien ice cream.
