  • Hanoi - Special Cuisine Destination

For me, Hanoi is not just the city of my living but also a tourist destination which cannot be ignored when traveling in northern Vietnam, this is a tourist destination convergence factors from cultural tourism, history, landscapes, tourist resorts and so on.

Besides visiting Hanoi you also have the opportunity to enjoy the Hanoi Delicacy, most of these delicious dishes are concentrated in the Old Quarter area of Hanoi. Because this is a long-standing living area has a thousand-year history from the time of King Ly Cong Uan moved the capital.

In addition to the delicious dishes of traditional Hanoi, the years here Hanoi also has more dishes, eateries with many unique flavors of all regions and other countries. This is also the opportunity and favorable for you to have more options to eat when traveling Hanoi.

  • Good Restaurants in Hanoi

Today I will introduce to you some good restaurants in Hanoi.

However, I have to admit that even though I have been living in Hanoi for nearly six years, I still do not know all the good food in this city.

Simply, Hanoi always develops, there are always new things.

  • Bat Dan Pho: - Bat Dan Noodle

Pho Bat Dan is famous all over Hanoi, talking about Bat Dan noodle soup is thought to queue up every morning to get a bowl of delicious pho. The restaurant is quite crowded on Saturdays and Sundays, most of the diners come here because Bat Pho deliciously follows Hanoi. If you are the person who likes to be attentive or afraid to queue, this will not be the Pho restaurant you are expecting. Saying that the days of the week is not too crowded.

Moreover, I also know that Pho Bat Dan is from the original family name. Bat Dan noodle soup is typical of traditional beef noodle soup, with a rich aroma, greasy, clear water, fresh beef, smooth and full of beef, which is not only attractive to Hanoians but also with diners nearby, at home and abroad look to.

Experience if you come to eat, I recommend you should go 2 people, one person buys Pho one person to hold the front. The address is at 49 Bat Dan, the restaurant is open in the morning from 6.30 am - 8.30pm. It is late to not eat it.

  • Bún ốc Hàng Chai:

Hang Chai is a small street that connects Hang Roi and Hang Cot, Co Cuc restaurant on the corner of Hang Chai street which has been famous for 25 years with a special sour taste of vinegar. Consumers have long-standing customers, from the bowl of vermicelli burgers only cost 2k to today is 30k. Most crowded around 9-10 am, you may have to queue for quite a long time to enjoy this famous vermicelli, but more and more customers are not as busy as the queue here.

This noodle shop is small, low table, feeling quite cramped, you should come early, not queue. Many people around that often buy home for the comfort of a new look has a few people sit sitting but i still have to wait a long time.

I have been with you for this restaurant generally waiting 10 to 15 minutes for food is normal.

  • Bún chả Hương Liên (24 Lê Văn Hưu, Hai Bà Trưng),

It can be said that this is the most famous noodle shop Hanoi, the shop is now quite clean, fast service, price 50 - 60k / capacity but more power. I usually go 3 people, just call 2 or go 2 people to call 1 more nem crab tank.

There are three types of pork chops served in the same bowl: grilled chicken (chopped meat), chopped pork chop and chopped pork ribs Dumplings, crunchy sweet and crunchy carrots, sprinkle a layer of pepper on top of a bowl of chopped fish sauce. When eaten must eat with many kinds of vegetables such as salads, coriander, marjoram, basil, shiso ..

This restaurant is very famous after the visit of President Barrack Obama in Vietnam.

I have been in this restaurant for several times, it is located at the end of Hang Bac Street there is a small alley that is always busy people, it is the alley Fathong. In the most famous lane is rice noodles with shrimp paste from a lot of lane to the end of the alley. But there are two of the best known are 55's and 49's.

This is a simple, easy-to-use dish that requires a selection of ingredients. Bun noodles must be vermicelli leaves in Phu Do village, microfiber. Shrimp sauce is taken from Thanh Hoa, dark pink, bong, when adding a little oil in the pan is boiling, beat up look attractive. Delicious bean is famous Mo pea beans, greasy peas, fried golden yellow in pans of fat boiling water, just cut out smoke ... In addition to fried beans, customers can call more fried nuggets - a kind of fried Particularly of Hanoians, made from fine ground meat mixed with rice, so when you eat will see the smell of plastic mushroom smell. Or there are other side dishes such as fried noodles, boiled meat ... Quan clean, very crowded but fast service and enthusiasm. But when you charge you pay close attention to the payment paper.

Bún chả Hương Liên (24 Lê Văn Hưu, Hai Bà Trưng), is a very famous restaurant in Hanoi, after the unexpected visit of the President of USA: Barack Obama during this official visit to Vietnam.

Vietnam

From the airport

If you are already at the airport in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi, be prepared to wait long time (aprox. 30-60min.) for the luggage. After going out from the airport you might be wondering how to get to the city and the place you are going to stay at. There are few options in my opinion: you can get a taxi, you are risk paying way more than you should and it is not sure the driver understands English. Here come my firs tip: write the address you need to go to on paper or take a picture, so that you make it easier for you and your driver. The second option is booking a car beforehand, this way the price and destination are fixed. Another way is downloading Uber or Grab. Unfortunately Uber and Grab use cash only, so you need to prepare some cash beforehand.

Traveling

Traveling in the city is comfortable with Uber or Grab moto or car and if you decide to use a motorbike bring a face mask. Don’t worry about not having a helmet, since every Uber or Grab drier has an extra one and will give it to you. I have never used public transport, because natives advised me not to, plus it takes a lot of time, those are the reason why I do not recommend it. Walking on the street could be an adventure alone, since some of the motor rider decide to drive on the side walk, others park the vehicles there as well, you can see small tables and chairs on the sidewalk (those are typical restaurants, some of which have very tasty food). If you decide to walk you will have to cross at least one street. Here is a tip you can use: just walk ahead slowly, don’t make a step back! You can put your hand up and make a signal that you want to cross by waving it up and down. And last but not least, be extremely careful not to burn yourself on the exhaust of the bike, because it’s going to hurt.

Food

Speaking about food in Hanoi there are a lot of street food restaurants and stalls. You can also see ladies walking around selling fruits and sweets.
If you choose to sit in a restaurant on the side walk hygiene might not be priority, but here is a trick you can use: Ask for lemon and clean the sticks and spoon with it. In the old square there is a place called “beer corner”. You can find a lot of traditional food restaurants there, clubs, bars and shops working late.
And since we are speaking about food, as one of my Vietnamese friends said: “name something, we eat it!”- be prepared to see all kind of thing, such as baked dog (as far as they told me the older generation prefers this kind of meat with beer), frogs, larvae, baby birds etc. My personal favorite food is the so called Pho Bo soup. It is a soup with beef and rice noodles. Furthermore there are different kinds of ingredients Vietnamese put inside, such as chicken blood (it looks like a jelly in cubic form), don’t be scared to try it, but be careful were you are eating it. If you don’t want to ruin your trip I suggest you bring some basic medicine in case your stomach doesn’t feel good. Another signature dish is the “Bun cha”. A very favorite place of mine is “The old Hanoi restaurant”, where you can have the best Pho Bo soup and other delicious dishes.

If you want to try other types of food from around the world you can go to Tay Ho – the “foreigner” neighborhood. It could be more expensive, but the restaurants there offer amazing food. One place you can visit is the “Syrena Shopping Center” it is but 5 min walking from Intercontinental Hotel. There you can try some good Japanese food or just buy something from the supermarket upstairs. My personal favorite place to eat is the “Buffet Sen Tay Ho”. As you can guess from the name it is an open buffet. You can either buy tickets beforehand or directly pay and go inside, although this might be risky, since a lot of people go there and you might not find a place. The food there is amazing and you will have a vast choice of see food and all other kinds of meat, salads, soups, sushi, and deserts. As far as I remember the ticket costs around 30$ and the drinks are not included.

Night Life

The night life in Hanoi is amazing; there are people on the streets during the whole week. The best place to go is in the Old Square (Old Town), around the “beer corner” where you can find bars and clubs. One of the places is called 1900, you might find it weird at first when you see there are young people inhaling gas from balloons. If you are eager to try it, don’t hesitate it is not the coolest thing, but as well is not bad or dangerous for your health.
If you are in Thy Ho, then you can go and have drinks in “Rumors”. There I live music every night and the atmosphere is very cool. Another bar near “Rumors” is the “Sidewalk”, where a lot of foreigners go. You can play pool or darts, while you’re having some beer.

If this is not your kind of place you can easily find something else around the West Lake or in the Old Square.

A must try:

- Milk tea
- Cold coffee
- Egg coffee
- Pho Bo soup
- Sea food (muscles)
- Bun Cha
- Shrimp souse (purple)

Places you must visit in Hanoi

I recommend you start with the oldest temple in Hanoi - Tran Quoc Pagoda , which is suited next to West Lake and you make your way up to the Old Town. In my opinion the best time to visit all those places is Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. I recommend exactly those days because during that time the streets next to the Ha Hoan Kiem Lake are pedestrian zone. There are no cars or motorbikes and a lot of people go there to have fun, walk around, play games etc. If you walk from Dinh Tien Hoang Street up to Hang Be you can see the Turtle Temple as some people call it - Ngoc Son Temple. Both streets are pedestrian zone on the weekend, which makes it more pleasant. The St. Joseph’s Cathedral is on the other side of the lake and is again not more than 10 minutes’ walk from the Turtle temple and the Old Town. Other interesting places you can visit are the Old House and The Gate, which are 5 min away from each other, the street is called: Ma May.

Ha Long Bay

If you are staying for a longer period of time there are few other places outside Hanoi, which you must take the time and visit. The first one is Ha Long Bay. In translation the name means: ”Bay of Descending Dragons” If you are traveling from Hanoi the best way you can get to Ha Long Bay is to either rent a car with a driver or buy a bus ticket. If you believe you will not manage it, then you can always buy a bus ticket, a bus ticket in a package with boat ride or only a boat ride ( if you rented a car) from a tourist agency. It is relatively easy to find a tourist agency, since a lot of them are in the Old Town.
If you arrived at Ha Long Bay you will see the Station where you can buy tickets for a boat ride, canoe and the cave. I recommend you buy the tickets there if you are going during January, because this way you the chance you and your friends or family are alone on the boat is higher, plus you can choose what food to eat ( more expensive ticket or affordable one). If you are visiting Vietnam during the summer (June, July, August) I recommend you buy the ticket from a traveling agency, just in case.
If you don’t only want to spend few hours on the boat and in the cave in Ha Long Bay you can get a boat and spend one or two nights on the boat. I personally have never done it, but I believe it might be a lot of fun.
On the way to Ha Long Bay or back, there is a Pearl farm you can stop and visit. There you can see how pearls are made and you can by some jewelry with pearls.

Hoi An

Hoi An is one of the oldest cities in Vietnam and is part of the UNESCO Heritage. It is a relatively small town, suited next to the sea side. The town is also known as City of lights, since a lot of the lanterns are produced there. If you want to by a lantern you have to know that the prices are quite high, but people are willing to negotiate. If you are in Hoi An you can go to the beach, where you will have to have lunch if you want to use the umbrellas, but you will not pay anything extra except the food. The beach is quite nice and you can go there by Uber, Grab, taxi or just rent a bike.
During the night there are quite a lot of restaurants with traditional dishes. You can again rent a little boat and have a round in the river. If you want you can visit the ancient town. Normally you need to buy tickets if you are visiting during the day, but during the night time it is free.
The town is full of tourists and it’s quite romantic. The best way to travel there is with an airplane to Da Nang and then you can rent a car which will drive you to Hai An.

Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh is another place in Vietnam you can visit. You can go there by bus or car and you and buy tickets from a travel agency or organize the whole trip by yourself. There you can rent a boat and visit some temples and caves. I personally quit liked it and the best part is that you can do it in one day or make a Ha Lon Bay - Ninh Binh trip and spend the night in a hotel.
