Tastefully roasted coffee - my favourite coffee shop
In the past, I only used to drink coffee when I had to study all night and I needed caffeine to keep me awake and alert. But once I moved to the United states of America, I started to drink coffee every day. And, unlike Europeans, Americans drink huge amounts of weak coffee. In Europe, you can order an Espresso and you will probably be awake all night. In the United states of America, you can drink half a liter of coffee and be just as sleepy as you were before drinking it.
I figured out that coffee in the United states of America is much weaker than coffee in Europe, and I realized that American people drink coffee ‘just because’, and not because they would need it to keep them awake. And that is why there are so many flavour infused coffees and coffee creamers in the States - you drink coffee because of its flavours. Just think of Starbucks for a second, and all the flavour infusions that you can order with your coffee.
But I recently discovered a very special coffee shop. In fact, it opened just a few months ago, and it is called Tastefully roasted coffee. Tastefully roasted coffee is not a chain, and it was founded by local people who wanted to focus on quality of their coffee. And I have to say that they were more than successful.
Not only is their coffee delicious, but the interior also looks super cozy and inviting.
How to get there?
Tastefully roasted coffee is situated in the University of Dayton area, more precisely on 6 Oakwood avenue in Dayton, Ohio. You will find it just opposite the post office, and there are two other places, worth checking out, just a few steps away. One of them is the donut place, called Duck donuts, where your donuts will be custom made in front of you, and the other one is Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop. If you can, please check both of them out.
In the past, Tastefully roasted coffee was a coffee shop, called Saxby’s, which closed down, and for almost a year, the building was empty. And that is why I was so excited about trying Tastefully roasted coffee when it opened - to see how good it is. I am sure it will stick around longer than Saxby’s!
There are a few parking spots in front of the Tastefully roasted coffee, but if you go there during busy hours, you might have to park on one of the streets nearby. Do not worry, parking on the street is completely legal in the United states of America, unless there is a sign that tells you parking on the street is not allowed. It took me a while to get used to it, but I think it is awesome that you can just park your car basically anywhere, even if it is not in an ‘official’ parking spot.
The interior
The interior of the Tastefully roasted coffee is just fabulous. The walls are covered in dark wood, the lights are dimmed, and there is a big fireplace with comfortable leather sofas in front of it, and a big TV, where they usually play The office.
These sofas at Tastefully roasted coffee are just as comfortable as they look.
The desk where you can order your food and drinks, takes almost the entire length of the wall, and on its right side, you will find a displayof sandwiches, cookies and other bakery treats that you can nibble on while drinking your coffee.
And this is where you will order your drinks.
Food and drinks
Other that coffee, you can also get some bakery items and sandwiches at Tastefully roasted coffee, and the exact options that you can choose from, are different from day to day. If they have it, try their dark chocolate blueberry muffin.
The drinks that I tried and liked so far at Tastefully roasted coffee, are:
Red eye. If you need to stay awake two nights in a row, try their Red eye drink. I tried red eye at Starbucks before, and it helped me a little, but the Red eye at Tastefully roasted coffee is really strong, and it kept me awake until three in the morning. This coffee is very bitter, so you might want to ask for extra sugar or creamer in it.
Chai tea latte. Coffee mixed with tea? I agree, it does sound gross, and that is why I was so reluctant to give it a try. But it is actually not bad at all, because the black tea and coffee flavours blend really well together, and you can somehow separately taste them both at the same time.
White chocolate mocha. This is basically just coffee with milk and white chocolate sauce, and it is delicious. Try adding the toasted marshmallow flavour shot in it.
The menu is displayed above the counter. As you can see, it is pretty extensive.
Prices
Let me just say that all the drinks at Tastefully roasted coffee are much cheaper than at Starbucks, and they taste better. And they are also healthier for you, because even when I order flavour infused coffee at Tastefully roasted coffee, I do not have the feeling that I am drinking pure sugar.
Their coffee prices are between two and six dollars, and the exact price depends on the size and flavours that you decide to add to your drink.
A few words for the end…
Nowadays, it is really hard to find a decent coffee, simply because there is so many chains that focus on quantity over quality. And I am really glad I discovered this place. I have my own coffee maker at home, but from time to time, it is just nice to go to Tastefully roasted coffee and try something different.
