Some interesting facts about Copenhagen airport
Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup)is the main international airport and is a very nice place, which is the largest airport in the Nordic countries and as we read in the Internet, it is the third-busiest airport in the northern Europe and one of the oldest ones.
You know, until you go somewhere abroad, you should definitely check out some things about that country or place that you are visiting, so that I did some diggings about Copenhagen and Denmark , of course.
I was pretty surprised, that I got to know, that I would be landing in the Copenhagen airport, which was located on an island called Amager. And the more interesting thing about this place was, that it the airport was located at about 7 kilometres distance from the Copenhagen city center and there was a connection of a metro line to the city center from the airport. And the Amager island was connected to the other remaining part of Copenhagen with eight bridges. And this island had also had a connection to Sweden with that Øresund Bridge, which I crossed the other day while being there in Copenhagen, by the way! And maybe you have heard about Nicklas Bendtner if you are a football fan.He played in Arsenal team and happens to be born just the same day as me _ January 16-th! Nowadays he is in Rosenborg, which is a Norwegian club.
So, there is another airport there in Copenhagen and that’s why this one is called Kastrup Airport, because it’s located in the small town of Kastrup. And there’s another airport, which is called Roskilde Airport, so there are those two names to distinguish those two airports from each other.
The airport was inaugurated on April 20, 1925, so that makes it one of the oldest ones in Europe.
The metro, which connected the airport to the Copenhagen city center was just built in 2007.So, if you want to take metro to the Copenhagen city center _ as me and Kathrine did, you have to go upstairs two floors above the underground railway station and take line M2, which takes about 15 minutes to get to the Copenhagen city center.
My visit to Copenhagen airport
I must tell you, that it’s a pity, that I couldn’t get to see much of the Copenhagen airport, since it’s pretty large and I didn’t really have time to walk around, because I just had go to the baggage claim and wait for my baggage, so that I would go out and meet Kathrine, who was waiting for me there for almost an hour already.
When we entered the Copenhagen airport, we just went through the halls, until we got to the baggage claim. It was kind of surprising, that not so many people were around, I mean, the security or stuff like that. And there was not many interesting sites around. However, the inside of the airport is very beautiful and well organized and well decided. There are all those terminals and shops and people going around. You are lucky if you have some time to explore this beautiful place full of Danish souvenirs and shops and bakeries.
You know, one of the very famous bakeries in Denmark is this Lagkagehuset, which has a great Flodeballer _ their national desert, and though it’s a pretty expensive place, you should definitely visit it. And guess what?! If you register on the Copenhagen airport web page and then you visit this Lagkagehuset there and show them your membership on the web page, you can have a free upgrade from a small coffee to a large one.
There’s also this statue, well, in fact, there are two of them _ two people standing on a kind of bridge, looking at the clock or down the hall, I don’t know, and they are like waiting for their flights to be announced or something like that. They seem pretty real and you can’t even realize, that they are some figures in the crowd. You should see them while being in the airport, I must say.
