The Village Idiot

The Village Idiot is maybe my favorite after work bar (even though I don't actually work here in Cape Town.. )

This bar opened up only recently and a friend of mine, who is doing his internship around the corner, wanted to go for after work drinks so we decided on checking out The Village Idiot.

It was a lot bigger than expected, but the interior is still quite cozy. The place offers tables, booths or bar seats. The bar itself is situated on the second floor and has a 90 degrees terrace. Since the weather was still nice, we decided on sitting outside. We got welcomed by some friendly staff members who almost immediately brought us the menus.

Since they didn't have a cocktail menu (yet), we asked for the house specials. My friend ordered a Cuba Libré and I tried their Mint Julep cocktail, which was quite strong. So we paired it with a lovely cheese board.

When we wanted to pay, we discovered these nice looking red pool tables in the back of the place. Turned out, the use of these tables is completely free! So we order another and played 4 games before we headed home.

Although by the time we left, people started ordering burgers and other delicious food. It all looked nice and smelled even better, so we agreed on coming back for diner some other time.

In general, I think this bar is great for any occasion, drinks, diner, playing pool and even partying, as I saw a DJ booth in the corner of the bar. So be sure to check this place out, I think it's going to become a real hotspot in the Cape Town City Bowl.
