Really tasty homemade burger with vegetarian edition DO IT YOURSELF

So, you want to have a small party but you are not a big fun of pizza and greek gyros. You want to eat unhealthy but in a healthy way. How can you do it?

I can solve this difficult question, by providing you with a recipe that one of my friends uses everytime we want to come to her place and she wants to show her cooking skills. I am sure that it will leave you speechless!

This is a recipe for four to five burgers

Let's start now!

Ingredients

For the patties

  • Half a kilo quality ground beef meat (it is really important to use mince from a cut of meat with the less possible fat. This will add extra flavor and the burger will be more tender)

  • One egg

  • One pinch of salt

  • One pinch of pepper

  • Two tablespoons of virgin olive oil

For the vegetarian patties

  • Four portobello mushrooms

  • Olive oil

  • One pinch of salt

  • One pinch of pepper

  • One pinch of oregano

  • A little bit of rosemary

  • A clove of garlic

Finally the preparation time

For the patties

Place the beef ground meet, the egg, the salt, the pepper and the olive oil in a bowl. Mix with your hands until evenly combined. Divide the mixture into five equal portions. Shape each portion with your hands into a patty. Preheat olive oil into a non stick frying pan and then place the patties. Cook them until they get brownish gold and then put them in a plate lined with tissue paper to absorb the excess oil.

For the vegetarian patties

The procedure for the vegetarian patties is pretty much the same. Transfer the portobello mushrooms into a large bowl and mix them with the salt, the pepper, the oregano, the rosemary and the clove of garlic that you should have cut in really tiny pieces. Preheat again a non stick frying pan with olive oil and then place the mushroom mixture into the pan and cook them until they get that brownish gold color as we said previously. After that place them in a plate lined with tissue paper to absorb the excess oil.

For the buns

In a large bowl dissolve the dry yeast with warm water. Then add the wheat flour, the warm milk, the melted butter, the egg, the sugar and the salt to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic about five minutes. After that divide the dough immediately into five pieces and shape them into balls and place them in a greased baking pan. Spread the balls with an egg yolk mixed with two tablespoons of water and sprinkle with sesame optionally. Let them rest for ten minutes and meanwhile preheat the oven at 200 C or 392 F. Bake them for fifteen minutes. Set them aside until they become cool and cut them in the middle.

For the pickle sauce

Grab a bowl again friends and place the two medium chopped pickles, the chopped green onion, one tablespoon of mustard, half a cup mayonnaise, one tablespoon of lemon or lime juice, one pinch of salt and one pinch of pepper. Mix well and put the mixture in the refrigerator for a while.

And now we are almost there

Place the beef patties or the mushroom patties into the buns with a slice of cheddar (or grated parmesan or whatever cheese you may like), a stripe of cooked bacon if you are into beef patties, one onion slice, one tomato slice, a leaf of iceberg lettuce, ketchup, mustard and pickle sauce. You can serve with french fries or parmesan chips if you want to.
